[edit] User:Morsini
Gadfium, I'm not sure if you're an admin, but hope you'll know what to do in any case... A user by the handle of Morsini keeps uploading images despite frequently running into trouble with copyright and plagiarism. See User_talk:Morsini for a page littered with such warnings, to which he apparently doesn't respond. He does this repeatedly, even simply renaming and uploading the same images. See Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion/2007_May_31#Image:Santiago_Chile_2.jpg. Today she or he has uploaded three more images: Image:Val_Paraiso.jpg, Image:Vina_del_mar_3.jpg, and Image:Vina_del_mar_2.jpg. I can't find them on the web anywhere, but I swear s/he never took them. Their styles are too disparate, they are clearly professional publicity shots, and so on. I think these images should be removed and this guy(ess) blocked. How to go about this? --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 00:57, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've blocked them for 24 hours to get their attention. If they continue to upload suspect images without some attempt to explain what their copyright status is, then I'll block indefinitely.-gadfium 02:03, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
-
- Thanks! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 12:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Back from his/her block, and he's uploaded two more images: Image:Valparaiso_2.jpg and Image:Valparaiso.jpg. Without responding to warnings or your block or anything. I mean, I'm sure there are zilliions of copyright images uploaded to Wikipedia, but this is a little brazen. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 17:58, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 12:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I've blocked them indefinitely, which doesn't mean forever, but only until they will discuss the images. It occurs to me that they may speak no English. If you can speak Spanish, please translate the gist of my message on their talk page for them.-gadfium 19:19, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] STOP CHILE ATTACK PLEASE
THE IMAGE OF SANTIAGO IS PERFECT, WHAT IS YOU PROBLEM??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.77.92.60 (talk • contribs)

[edit] yes, I have returned
I have moved to Northern Ireland for a few months, and have only just got internet on (and my, it's so much faster over here!). I would have posted something saying what I was up to, but I didn't think I would be disconnected for so long. Nice to know someone noticed I was gone. :) --Helenalex 20:43, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] East Island
Yes that was the right one - but I just created the East Island page without the Maori name as the heading. Should this be redirected now ? Malathos 03:59, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- Up to you I guess - most of the google hits I found included the Maori name, so I assumed it was official. I don't think it should stay at the current title - see Special:Whatlinkshere/East_Island, most of which are references to other islands of the same name. East Island, New Zealand would be fine if you don't like East Island/Whangaokeno. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (New Zealand). Whangaokeno should probably be a redirect to it as well. East Island should become a disambiguation page - no need to be too thorough in finding every single island with that name, just list a few from the articles linking to it.-gadfium 04:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
OK, I've created East Island/Whangaokeno and made up a disambigutaion page for East Island - I might try and track down some of the others just to flesh it out a bit. Cheers! Malathos 04:32, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] More Chile photo nonsense
Further to this discussion, compare this image with this one. NB I suspect all of Morsini's, and now also User:Tyrael15's, photos should be deleted. I don't have time to go around tagging all the pages. Is there a quick way of doing this? Thanks. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 10:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I went ahead and stuck some tags on the images and talk pages, but I'm not sure they're the right tags. --jbmurray (talk|contribs) 11:02, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- You might be better finding an admin who does more work in the image area to advise you on the right tags to use.-gadfium 19:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Block?
User talk:Scottloveshighschoolmusical wants a block. Page vandalism at Rangitoto, user page vandalism at user:avenue. MadMaxDog 09:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Already blocked by somebody else. Wiki-defenses working. MadMaxDog 09:28, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- You'll usually get a better response reporting vandals at WP:AIV than to an individual admin.-gadfium 09:33, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Auer
Since Auer (and his) bio, is of interest to a larger population than that of NZ - an internationalized version is correct. Auer and his global warming scepticism has made him an international character, and because of the interest shown in him from for instance Senator Inhofe, and his blog, i'd bet most views are from outside of the NZ.
I'm not trying to run with an Americanized view here - the format that i'm putting on the page will render according to whatever preferences is set. For me that's (coincidentally) the same as the one you prefer (since i'm european). --Kim D. Petersen 21:29, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'll reply at Talk:Augie Auer.-gadfium 22:10, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikimedia Board election
I'm wondering about running for the m:Board_elections, however as a full-time University student I would not be able to attend meetings for another year, so I will not run in the current election. I'm interested in any advice people can give me on how I can best prepare to run in 2008.
My major strengths are that I have been very committed to Wikipedia for the last three years, and have a substantial portfolio of photographs at the Commons. I have been an admin on en.wikipedia since late 2004. My edits have focussed on New Zealand-related articles, but I have also a deep interest in Oceania and Latin America. I have been following debates on Wikipedia policy for my entire time here, and will increase my contributions in that area.
I see my weakness as being that I am essentially monolingual; I can read simple French or Spanish but could not make useful contributions in those languages.-gadfium 02:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] non-free image (Image:Johnkey.jpg)
I tried to get in contact with Francis Till about the above, but as yet have heard nothing. Personally, I think the most sensible thing would simply be to restore the image anyhow, as we have fair use of it. I have the original email. --Lholden 10:40, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- The free image turned out not to be free, as it was a vidcap of an interview Key posted on Wikinews. --Lholden 20:44, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- I thought the video was under a free licence, but looking around at WikiNews, it seems more complicated than that. At any rate, I think I will not restore the fair use image, as even in the absence of a free image it is not acceptable to use a fair use image when anyone could go along to Key's electorate office and ask to take a picture of him.-gadfium 21:00, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine. If I can get Key's office to release the image as a free one (as the PM's office did) then I will re-up it. Otherwise, we'll have to find a keen photographer. --Lholden 23:51, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFCU case
I did a minor tweak] of the formatting of one of the users in the RFCU case you recently filed. Please revert if it was in error. Cheers! Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:10, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks.-gadfium 06:14, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hapū
I have made this an article (ok, its just a stub based on what was originally under Hapu) instead of a redirect to iwi. Hapū are pretty important, at least as important to most Māori as iwi is, if not way more. And since Iwi barely mentions it, it doesn't make sense to have it redirect there. I wanted to move Hapu to Hapū to preserve the history, but since I'm not an admin I couldn't, but I wonder if you could do it using the version at present under Hapū??? [edit] cleanup on New Zealand general election, 2008
thanks for cleaning up after me in the Māori Party section in election '08 article. I'll try harder to make more sense in the future... Kripto 11:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Translations
Good Evening Gadfium,
I saw your message under the Auckland Grammar School discussion page. If you wish to obtain a Maori translation for the article, you can ask User:Kahuroa. (He is also an Aucklander).
(I will not do it myself, for personal reasons) ---- 10:41, 22 June 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Per Angusta (talk • contribs)
- I'm assuming that you are a student at the school. I realise that the school has a lower proportion of Māori students than the general population, but surely there must be at least one Māori-speaking student you could ask to translate a few lines for you. Who knows, the request may get a new person involved in editing Wikipedia, either the en or mi editions.-gadfium 18:45, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks Gadfium for your support! It is Appreciated. I have placed my translation request to Kahuroa - let us see what his response will be...... -- Per Angusta, 02:29, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Partingtons Windmill
Hi Gadfium - can you please move the Partingtons Windmill article to my workspace and I will work on improving it. Thanks Lahany
- The article is now at User:Lahany/Partingtons Windmill. You need to add a source to the article, and make it clear why this windmill was important. I think it might be difficult to do this latter thing, because very few windmills would warrant their own encyclopedia article. You could consider condensing the material on the windmill to a single paragraph, and adding that (with source) to the History of Auckland article or perhaps an even more suitable article would be Karangahape Road.-gadfium 23:57, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dashes on France national rugby union team
Hey. I'm asking you this because you have a broad knowledge of the MoS. I'm currently going through the FAC process for France national rugby union team (see here). There has been the issue of dashes bought up. I'm not very familiar with the policy and have tried to address peoples concerns, but was wondering if you could go through and do this (just the dashes stuff) for me? If not, do you know someone that could? Thanks. - Shudda talk 00:14, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I'm no expert on how to use dashes, or on rugby for that matter. The appropriate MoS page is WP:DASH. Looking at the comments in the FAC page, it appears that em dashes are being used to separate out a portion of text when commas might be more appropriate, or perhaps the commenter would prefer that spaces not surround em-dashes. This is a matter of individual preference, and should not block an article from becoming featured, although the style should be consistent within the article.-gadfium 00:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Moa
I put in some spaces where they were needed....Snori 08:17, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- It's difficult to see added spaces when looking at a diff, but you also put a space in the middle of the word "south" to make "sou th". I realise it was an accident, but that's why I reverted.-gadfium 08:22, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
You have my sincerest thanks and gratitude for sorting out the Architecture portals identity crisis earlier this week. Cheers! --Mcginnly | Natter 16:29, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for the Welcome
I uploaded the picture of the lighthouse at Cape Reinga thinking I would add it on to the relevant page but as it contained a clearer picture already I decided not to make any changes. Not too sure yet how to delete an uploaded photo but I will read the help pages you have linked for me. Thanks Hedgehogmouse 21:09, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
