Butler Township is located in Vermilion County, Illinois. The population was 1,154 at the 2000 census.

Butler Township covers an area of 72.15 square miles and contains one incorporated settlement, Rankin, as well as the town of East Lynn. According to the USGS, it contains three cemeteries: East Lynn, Pellville and Rankin.

The township was formed from a portion of Middlefork Township in 1840 and was named after General Benjamin F. Butler, a civil war hero.[1]
