[edit] RfA Thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA. I decided to end it; more time is needed, and I probably need a bit more experience. From here, I think I'll look at community discussion, AfD and the like. I will try to improve in the areas of concern, and thanks to everyone who supplied feedback. -- Selmo (talk) 06:19, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I do appreciate the input, you gave me some good information. Eventually, I want to progress into, actually writing an article, participating in policy discussion, and eventually wielding the great mop. Happy editing. Navou talk 04:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Coat of arms

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I flagged this template for speedy deletion- as far as I can tell, this is a recreation of a template that was voted for deletion here: [1]. Although I dont really agree with the deletion in the first place, this still is a substantial recreation (as far as i can tell) without a corresponding challenge, so it qualifies for speedy deletion. If im missing something please accept my appologies and by all means let me know. -Lanoitarus (talk) .:. 16:55, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Editor review

Hi. Thanks for adding the tag to my user page. I haven't inserted the box because even though I've submitted the entry at Wikipedia:Editor_review#User:xiner, the link on my userpage doesn't point to it, and I don't want to create a duplicate page. Do you have any idea why the link doesn't point to the right place? Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 05:41, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Of course, how did I miss that? Well, I guess it's time to update my answers to the questions now. Thanks! Xiner (talk, email) 05:51, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Are you asking me to remove the line? It's fluff. Who cares? - crz crztalk 19:23, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hey dude

When I say something isn't vandalism, and it obviously isn't, then don't remove it with the edit summary "removing vandalism". Ashibaka tock 20:02, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

"Vandalism is any addition, deletion, or change of content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of Wikipedia." My description of the deletion debate has no impact on the talk page.
You realize that, for the first three years of Wikipedia, there was no such thing as these silly pastel boxes littering the talk pages to inform you about previous deletion discussions. When an article passed VfD someone mentioned it on the talk page like any other sort of article-related news. There is no standard format that VfD notices need to follow. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. Ashibaka (tock) 04:37, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New England Patriots

lol, well, it isn't live(the game was yesterday), but I think giving a scoring summary adds a nice touch. Now I just gotta do the summaries for the 14 games before that one, the one next week, the ones for the playoffs, and gameday conditions for each game plus maybe a few more pictures and some outside commentary and it'll be featured! Easy, huh? :-)

Thanks for the input on the review. Just H 04:59, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I counted 10 or 20 on Featured Articles, including New England Patriots, so it seems this would just an extention of that. If you hear of any wikiprojects that need talk page templates on articles, let me know. I don't know where else i'd do mass talk page editing on articles, when I edit, I edit in sprees. Just H 05:22, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Questions

Hey, I was wondering if I could ask you two more questions.

  1. How many article talk pages do you think will be significant enough for rfa status?
  2. I really can't get into the Village Pump or project talk pages so far, alot of stuff that is done on talk pages elsewhere is done on regular pages in project space it seems.

I feel a little like Captain Ahab here with adminship, I don't think i'll be able to edit 100% until i'm able to get the monkey of passing an rfa off my back. Just H 19:15, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re What You Said

My apologies if it seems disjointed here, but I figured it'd be better to reply here.

In regards to the talk pages, I generally don't talk unless I have something to say right there and then -- it's not in my nature to go out looking for conversations on talk pages, I only use them when I think there's an edit that needs some fleshing out from the community.

And in regards to project space talk page edits, the talk pages of them seem almost redundant since what is done in talk pages elsewhere is done right on the project space for the most part. Same thing with the Village Pump.

I don't know how to put it any better, but I guess i'm just an editing machine -- if there is something that needs discussion with another user where there may be conflict, I kind of go into "automated phone message mode", like here with Sir Nick[2].

In short, I can break up conflict with the best of them, but it's not in my nature to go around looking for it.

Is that a killer to my chances of being an admin? Just H 23:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thinking Alot

I've been thinking alot whether to do a self-nom or wait a while more. I am jumping at the bit for the rfa, but I know self-noms can hurt you from what i've seen. I was wondering if I could get your opinion on that too.Just H 23:46, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese maps

Hi AQu01rius, I'm not sure in what way I can be of help to you. I have finished general maps of the Qin, Han, and Ming dynasties. All the other maps I have done are not really complete, and should be edited or deleted. Originally, I was intending to create a series of maps from around 1000 BCE to the present day (one for every 300 years or so) to show the settlement of Han Chinese, but work commitments always got in the way. If someone has the technical expertise and time to do that, I'd be willing to provide creative input. Yeu Ninje 03:26, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

The Chinese Civil War template is by no means redundant. Take a look at it almost all the people and events are only in this template but not in the warlords. Hey AQu01rius, this looks great! One quibble though at the end. You write "capturing more than 12,000 guns and artilleries." I assume the "guns" are rifles and the "artilleries" are artillery peices or guns which is the usual shorthand expression for some artillery peices.

BTW are you going to do similar articles for the second and third encirclement campaigns?Asiaticus 07:48, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Garrett Morgan Page

Hi,

Thanks for protecting this page, could you do me a favor and revert it back to my last edit. Right before you locked the page KelleyCook deleted a documented contribution (with little citation outside of the USPTO.gov) my citations included many heavily documented articles. The result is that we have conflicting sources. It should be up to the readers to determine which argument is more plausible since our primary and secondary sources are conflictory, it doesn't mean she should have just deleted what she didn't agree with as because of "consensus" rule, which really was just a few people. Further, my documentation is from MIT the Fed Highway Authority, RIT etc vs assertations from www33.brinkster.com.

I am not asking for a ruling, just that my last edit stand so that the moderator can see exactly what has happened.

Thanks --BFritzen 22:04, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

I've started setting up the WP:Database WikiProject to improve database articles, and I can use any hints, tips, and technical advice you might be able to offer. [edit] Welcome

I'm glad to see you've been hard at work with the new buttons; thanks, and congratulations. I wanted to mention a couple of small things, though: please do remember when you semi-protect an article to include either {{sprotect}} or {{sprotect2}}, so there's some indication that it's protected. Also, I noticed you replaced Arielle Cleare with {{deletedpage}}, which was a good call. However, you semi-protected it, and it's best to full-protect those or not bother (since almost anyone who can create an article can also edit through semi-protection). I re-deleted it and moved it to WP:PT, which is also a good option. Keep up the good work, and let me know if there's anything I can help with. Chick Bowen 18:45, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] T:DYK/N

Thanks for your help with the next update. A few pointers, if I may:

  • please remove the ones that you pick from the suggestions page (T:TDYK)
  • please remember to add the credits when you add a candidate to the next update, to make it easier to credit the article and the creator
  • please try to pick ones near the bottom of the list, otherwise they will expire before their 5 days are up. It also gives time for reviewers to give comments on the ones near the top of the list, if any are needed.

Thanks again. -- ALoan (Talk) 20:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Again, thanks for your help, but please remember to update the credits section on the next update. Now I have updated the main page template, I am going to have to work out who contributed what myself so I can do the credits. -- ALoan (Talk) 10:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Thank you for your comment on my DYK entry for Henry F. Werker. The template note at the end of the article was imprecise. I should have modified it to say only that some information contained in the article was derived from the FJC directory, not that actual article text came from there. I have made the change now. I also see that someone has moved the May 17 articles to "expired," but I calculate that I have a few hours left. :) Regards, Newyorkbrad 21:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK update

I credited all the articles, now all that is left is the noms and creators. Smee 23:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC).

  • I was the nom for the last one, so I will not credit myself or the creator on that, better step back and let someone else do it. I will credit the others, though. Smee 23:07, 22 May 2007 (UTC).
No need to be coy about doing the credits for your own articles - it is just a mechanical step after everything else has been done. The points in the process were there may be a perception of conflict of interest are (principally) moving an article from the suggestions page to the next update pages and (less so) from the next update page to the main page. -- ALoan (Talk) 09:39, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Dafuo2.jpg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Dafuo2.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Dafuo2.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 11:16, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi, help with Huo Long Jing

The non-English-Wiki member Sumple has pointed out that the Chinese book Huo Long Jing is not the appropriate title for the article, but a combination of the words into Huolongjing is (according to rules of the Pinyin system). He has suggested that I change the article heading to Huolongjing. Is this something that I should do?--PericlesofAthens 16:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Cool, I've gone ahead and done that. One more thing though. I changed all other book title names in the article by combining all their words into one. Should I have done that with all the other book titles? Some of them look so awkward now. Can you have a look?--PericlesofAthens 19:57, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Northeast Project

Assault11 started his repeated disruptive edits on Northeast Project again. Diverting the specifics of Goguryeo controversies to its own article doesn't seem to work. Please do something about this. Cydevil38 03:53, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Disruptive edits? Right. I have attempted to generate discussion in the talk page, but to no avail. Cydevil38 has so far ignored my attempts to address the problems plaguing the article. After all, was it not agreed upon that "we merge most of the information that talk about the Goguryeo Controversy, text book incidents and its history etc. to this page (as in the Gaogouli controversies page)." As you can see, the current state of the article changed close to nothing. None of the main issues (refer to talk page [3]) have been addressed in his version. There have already been other complaints (see talk page) about the controversial/POV terminology being used in the article (e.g. Turkestan). If trying to create a workable solution for the article (note that I have restored parts of the article since my initial edit after the reopening) is concerned "disruptive," then consider me guilty. [edit] COI Templates.

Hi, I'm sending you a message because of your involvement with the Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2007_May_18#Template:COI_and_Template:COI2 discussion. The result of the TfD was no-consensus, but there was a significant expressed consensus for editing the templates to bring them into line with good practice. Unfortunately this has not happened, and the templates have been left pretty much in the state they were before the TfD. Would you like to assist in bringing these templates in line with good practice? --Barberio 16:44, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Oldmacauflag.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Oldmacauflag.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:42, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Banners

Hi, can you create the project banners and assessment departments of WP:FORMOSAN, WP:TWGOVT (both are WikiProjects), and possibly WP:TWTOWNS (a task force) for me please?--Jerry 17:22, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

For the two indepedent projects, I think a separate banner like the one WP:TIBET has would be better, for the task force, I think I would put it under the wptaiwan tag.--Jerry 17:36, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi again. I kind of figured out how to do it so I did the banners for WP:FORMOSAN and WP:TWGOVT.--Jerry 19:29, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:China/Red

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Portal:China/Red, by Koavf (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Portal:China/Red fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

Redundancy of Portal:China

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Portal:China/Red, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. [edit] Featured Portal candidates:Dinosaurs

Hi there! I've been petitioning CJ to close the discussion on the FPC Portal Dinosaurs for the last week after he said he'd close it the week before if no opposes arose. However, he has seemingly been ignoring my posts on his talk page & I told him I'd ask somewhere else then. Seeing as you're around that area & you're an admin, I was wondering if you could possibly close the discussion, as the whole wikiproject dinosaurs is really excited about getting our portal featured. It's been nearly a month since the FPC started, so I'd love to see it finally close. Are you the man I'm looking for, or could you direct me to someone else if you're not. Cheers & thanks a lot. :) Spawn Man 04:40, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Dinosaurs:

As per my post on the portal's talk page, thank you so much for featuring the portal. Don't give up on the China portal just yet - I think the only problem anyone had with it was that there were red linked sections - if you fill those in & keep the portal on randomisation so that it hardly needs maintainence, then you should get it featured. If you need any help, just point me in the right direction & I'll see what I can do. Anyway, thanks again, Spawn Man 02:31, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:1938 Huang He Flood.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1938 Huang He Flood.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:59, 3 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Liftarn 08:59, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] help!

I'm trying to tweak the WPChina banner such that if parameter "music" is set to "yes", a second importance box will show up. That is,

"This article has been rated as [blah]-importance on the importance scale", followed by
"This article has been rated as [blah]-importance on the workgroup's importance scale"

The main assessment category for the music parameter would be "Modern Chinese music articles by quality." If you could help out with this, I will hail you as the most awesome person ever. Pandacomics 06:46, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

Can you look at the Madonna talk page; and tell me who's right or wrong about the citation. Look carefully at the first paragraph that refers to Madonna and her performance being criticised for being too sexual. I'm wondering if it isn't cheesy to cite any one of a million of sites that will tell you that. Thanks. þ 06:49, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
