Add links to wiki pages
This may sound complicated but it’s actually very simple.
Wiki pages: The pages to add the link to are the wiki pages which cover the birds of North America. A list of the names of all birds is attached to this job description. You can find any bird on the wiki by entering its name into the wiki search box: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
Here is an example for one bird page:
Abert’s Towhee
Link From: Find this bird on the USA wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abert's_Towhee
Link to: Find the page to link to for this this bird using this search engine:

The URL for the page is thus

This is the link that will go in the Abert’s Towhee wiki page, at the bottom in the area called External links. To access the area for the link you click the Edit link on the right of the External Links box.
Form the proper link for the Wiki as follows (use notepad):

So for the Abert’s Towhee example the link would look like this

Yes, you are completely right, the site is certainly useful and informative. Unfortunately the site owner is not convinced that his site(s) get enough of that credit, and resorted to paying people to spam his site. But here, we are writing an encyclopedia, not a linkfarm. For more information, see WP:COI, WP:SPAM, WP:NPOV, WP:NOT, WP:EL. Hope this explains. This sems to be a pretty clear case of heavy spamming with intent to get around our processes:

Spamming by the accounts and IP are occuring from the Universities "Information Technology Services " address, probably an overzelous webmaster--Hu12 (talk) 22:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
This is not spam, by any definition. Various people, over the course of 18 months, have improved Wikipedia by posting links to valuable resources hosted at a university library. Some of the editors Hu12 has accused of spamming posted a mere one or two links, as much as 18 months ago! Are we to believe that they were part of some sinister long-term spamming conspiracy?
I have reviewed every single contribution by every account and IP that Hu12 has accused of being part of this spam operation, and not found even one link that was clearly inappropriate. (The worst I found was one link that was posted to an article that I thought was too general for the link to be useful. It belonged on a more specific sub-article.) Every single link was posted to an on-topic article, and provided a useful resource that happens to be hosted at the university library archives. That's what archives are for! And it's entirely appropriate for uni students, or people who work at the library, to post links to the archives where they will be found most useful.
It seems to me that Hu12 has not only made a series of edits that degraded WP instead of improving it, but has also committed defamation against several editors, by posting his baseless accusations to their talk pages. I think he ought to visit each of those talk pages again and post an apology. And this entire section should be archived or deleted or whatever. Dot Com Infoway is a marketing strategy and content developer, spamming Wikipedia on an incredibly large scale for several years. Both link and reference spamming. Also engages in link vandalism and article vandalism[1]. sites without adsense are "This site has been conceptualized, designed and created by Dot Com Infoway & Galatta.com "

I'm sure there are many more sites and accounts. Needs cleanup, and monitoring, or perhaps other options should be considered.--Hu12 (talk) 09:58, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Several accounts, not sure how and if they are socks. Maybe useful, but I think already with a long history of spamming ...

(both resolve to the IP 87.246.77.22).

Lately there is some reference spamming, and user Judit25 has responded, and seems now to also add other references when poked a bit. Some of the info added is not always encyclopedic (see e.g. diff). Judit25 also edits with 212.137.62.186 (as seen here: diff when she ran into a 31 hour block). That IP resolves to the "Scottish Media Group", which also gets mentioned on the homepage of the sites added. a<countryname>attraction.com spamming

An anonymous spammer utilising multiple IP addresses registered to Pipex UK - rarely the same IP address twice - has added literally hundreds of tourism spam links to various locality articles for numerous European countries. I've added the domains to the spam blacklist, but there's a lot of cleanup work to be done. See:

Single use registered accounts being used to add this website and citations to the author's published books (such as The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Amazing Sex) on sex related articles. One account was warned back in January by Hu12, but since they're pretty much all single use accounts it's unlikely anyone received it. Will recommend for blacklisting since there is no way to warn and this has been ongoing since at least December. (The books can still be used as references without the link to the website if editors think appropriate).

Teachers.tv (for all its spammy url) is actually a well respected site, funded by the British government, that provides a lot of very good content for teachers in the UK. Despite the inappropriate additions, some of that content could be very useful and appropriate in some of our articles. I do not see that spam is being added, just that editing is bein gdoen with an apparent COI. I so far havent seen any edits that appear really suspect, either. DGG (talk) 23:45, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

DGG, if you take a look at the firs IP mentioned here, Special:Contributions/194.169.142.196, then I see an account who is very focussed on adding external links to external links sections, and I don't think that an external link on Richmond, London to the local part of the thomson directory is telling more about that area, that is IMHO pure for commercial reasons. --Beetstra (public) (Dirk BeetstraT C on public computers) 12:31, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
and if you look at the second, you will see a link added to "estate agent" where in fact their local directories are of great relevance. I', not even sure that for individual communities it is inappropriate to call attention to them as a resource, but that would have to be discussed by those who know better the range of available resources. Hmm, that link gets added to a page which already contains 6 links. I would call that becoming a linkfarm. If I click the link that that account added, I get a list of: "'estate agents in Aberdeen', 'estate agents in Barnsley' .." we are not a directory to find estate agents in the UK, and even, we are the English wikipedia, not the UK wikipedia. Also that link does not tell more about what an estate agent is. I found the other three edits by that account actually more appropriate.
