This is a WikiProject, a collaboration area and open group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of a particular topic, or to organizing some internal Wikipedia process.

Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Egyptian Religion. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. WikiProject on Egyptian Religion

[edit] Scope

The scope of this project is subject to change in compliance with original intent

This project is dedicated to the creation and expansion of articles concerning Egyptian religions including but not limited to: the traditional religion, Atenism, and Hermetism. It also strives to remove ethnocentric POVs from these articles that have conclusive statements of trivialization of these beliefs. At the same time, it is conscious not to promote the views as better than others. Ultimately, it strives to provide a Neutral Point of View on the matter.

The type of articles that it works on include:

  • Main articles on Egyptian religion and each of those religions
  • Egyptian religious concepts
  • Egyptian gods and goddesses
  • Major figures in Egyptian religious movements, or which began as an Egyptian religious movement
  • Egyptian religious monuments and buildings
  • Egyptian religious rituals
  • Articles on topics which have Egyptian religious influence and could benefit from mention of the Egyptian religious influence.

This project is not for:

  • Egyptian secular life
    • History
    • Lifestyle (except as it pertains to religion)
    • Political systems (except where religiously based)
    • Modern Egyptian religions
  • General mythology or occult studies

Longterm Goals

  1. Expand Wikipedia's coverage of Egyptian religions greatly
  2. Expand Wikipedia's coverage of Egyptian deities greatly
  3. Remove ethnocentric bias against Egyptian religions from articles as per WP:NPOV

Shortterm Goals

  1. Expand Hermeticism
  2. Create Egyptian religion as its own article, rather than a redirect page, focusing on the religion, and make Egyptian mythology pertain only to the actual mythology of Egyptian deities and related mythological beings.

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
