[edit] Economy
West Godavari District is richly cultivated land and major crops are rice, sugarcane, coconut & in some extent cotton & tobacco. Cotton barrage built on River Godavari at Dhavaleswaram channelling two canals, in which one canal is passing through west godavari and making the soil fertile. Above that lot of acqua cultivation is also done in the District. Hundreds of crores of foreign exchange is coming through in the form of export of Prawns & fish to foreign countries. The economy of the district is agri based and industry available in the region is also accordingly agri related industries. Rice mills, Oil Mills, Sugar mills, Paper mills are quite number. Andhra Sugars in Tanuku is famous sugar factory in Andhra, which produces fuels to Rockets. Above that there are Jute mills & cotton mills exists. Vendra paper mills in Bhimavaram, Foods, fertilizers & fats in Tadepalligudem are few to note. The yield per acre in the district is quite ambient. Since many years, the district is neglected for industrialization. Though lot of raw material is available, we cannot notify significant industries in the District. ONGC has started exploration activities in 1980 onwards in KG basin, Reliance & Cairn making efforts to pull out Oil & GAS, but significant industries, infrastructure facilities not come to the District so far. Apart from that precious & prestigious colleges & technical institutes are negligible in the district. Educational & Infrastructural development is moderate in the district. Hence, Most of the younger generation, have to migrate to other cities to get employment opportunities.
[edit] Seasons and Climate
The region mostly has a tropical climate like the rest of the Coastal Andhra region. The summers (March-June) are very hot and humid with practically non-existent winters. The rainy season (July-Jan) is the best time to visit this place with the fields brilliantly green with paddy crops, rivulets flowing with water and the sun shining brightly, but not burning as it does in the summer. The regions has long been home to Indian nobles due to its climate and fertile soil, and several zamindar mansions are scattered around the Godavari area.
