The 2008–09 Ukrainian Premier League season will be the eighteenth since its establishment. Shakhtar Donetsk are the defending champions, having won their 4th league title. A total of 16 teams will contest the league, 14 of which have contested in the 2007-08 season, and two of which will be promoted from the Persha Liha.
