Tešanj is a city and municipality in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, located near Teslić, Doboj and Zavidovići. It is administratively part of the Zenica-Doboj Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The town of Tešanj itself had 5,253 residents in 1981, and 6,058 in 1991.

In 1999, the municipality of Tešanj had 52,249 residents including 13,798 refugees and displaced persons the town had 5,668 residents. The vast majority of residents are ethnic Bosniaks.

In 2005, 98% of population of the municipality were ethnic Bosniaks.
