Derventa (Cyrillic: Дервента) is a town and municipality in the northern part of entity Republika Srpska which is part of Bosnia-Herzegovina, located just northwest of Doboj, in the Posavina region.

The Derventa municipality borders with Bosanski Brod, Modriča, Doboj, Prnjavor and Srbac, as well as Croatia across the Sava river. Derventa has a suburb part of town caled Derventski Lug originally but refugees from Krajina (Bosanski Petrovac, Sanski Most,Drvar...), who have come to local authority positions named Derventski Lug just Lug. The original name is Derventski Lug, this part of town becoming urban and in a few years Derventski Lug will become city zone. It has an area of 517 km² (200 sq mi) and includes 57 villages in addition to the actual town of Derventa.

Prior to the war in Bosnia (1992-1995), the municipality of Derventa had a population of around 57,000.
The 1991 census recorded 56,328 residents in the municipality, including:
- 22,986 Serbs (40.9%) (See: Serbs of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- 21,972 Croats (39%) (See: Croats of Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- 7,122 Muslims by nationality (12.6%)
- 3,306 Yugoslavs (5.9%)
- 942 others (1.6%)
The town of Derventa itself had 17,451 residents, including:
- 32% Muslims by nationality
- 25% Croats
- 25% Serbs
- 15% Yugoslavs
- 3% others

In 2006, the majority of inhabitants from the municipality were ethnic Serbs.
