[edit] List of French castles
To: User:M-le-mot-dit, User:Kaustuv, User:SlaveToTheWage, Talk:List of castles in France#Organisation of this list, Wikipedia talk:France-related topics notice board#List of castles in France - request for suggestions
List of castles in France: I have looked at the users' suggestions and comments and have made a new draft that I think could be the way forward. It uses the basic format drafted by User:M-le-mot-dit and the sort of layour used in the French Wiki.
My proposal, with notes and explanation is at User:Emeraude/Castles2.
For information, other versions are:
-
- List of castles in France - the present page
- User:Emeraude/Castles - my first draft, grouped by dept.
- User:M-le-mot-dit/draft - M-le-mot-dit's draft, grouped by region, then dept
What do you think? Emeraude 14:14, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Golubac fortress/General policy
Well, since you've targetted yourself for questions, here goes!
First off, there seem to be rather a lot of numbers for such a little bit of text based on the referencing I did for the article. Did I go overboard, and should just stick to numbers at the end of sentences, rather than also in the middle?
Also, I had a couple questions that I stuck on the talk page (except I imagine it's not a very high-traffic article, so who knows when it'll be seen). When sources disagree on dates, how is that usually dealt with?
In the process of finding sources and trying to figure out where the legend part should be, I also noticed that the majority of Golubac is taken word-for-word from the bottom of this page. What's done about things like that? Stick the site as a reference and note that it needs rewriting, or should it be deleted for copyright infringement, or? While deleting seems like the most likely, doing that would also turn the page into something completely useless.
Thanks! -Bbik 19:03, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thousand-Article Anglicisation
Hello STTW. I would like to ask you for your input in this - literally thousands of articles have been sloppily "Anglicised" already (changing "région" for "region", for example, without modifying the phrase around it in the least to provide the proper context/meaning of the term) without any prior discussion at all, and one is continuing this rampage in spite of an ongoing discussion and WP:RFC about it. As you are major contributor to France-topic articles, so your input in this case is even important. Please help. You can find the discussion here. Thanks. THEPROMENADER 19:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WPBiography project tagging (copied from here)
I came across STTWBot while WPBiography project tagging articles listed at DYK. Is it possible to modify STTWBot to assist me in tagging biography article talk pages with WPBiography? Thanks. -- Jreferee 16:02, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- My bot currently has approval for tagging WikiProject France and WikiProject Germany only. Any change has to be approved at Wikipedia:Bot requests first. So when if you can wait then I could request for an approval and help you out, should take perhaps a week or so. STTW (talk) 16:52, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- In my WPBiography tagging, I review the article for living, groups, etc, and then paste and then edit the following text according to my review of the article: This string of text contains the most used WPBiography text and is useful for most articles. This may help you in configuring the bot. It would be nice to work with you on modifying the bot so I can get an idea of how bots are put together. -- Jreferee 17:03, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Request made re WikiProject Spain
I've made the request for the bot described by you for WikiProject Spain. Just curious - how does the bot work? How can a bot know what's a Spain-related article or not? Plus, what happens next? How do we know if its approved? Full of curiosity -> EspanaViva 22:28, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your bot
Could you reprogramme your Wikiproject:France bot so it doesn't automatically add its project template to the top of the talk page above all other project templates? It's annoying for those of us in other projects who have created or worked hard on articles without any input from Project:France members to see those pages suddenly claimed for your project. By all means add your template if it's relevant, but put it after the existing project templates on the talk page please. Thanks. --Folantin 09:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into it. I have no problem with the Project France template appearing on any article relating to France, it's just the order of the templates that's a problem. Cheers. --Folantin 11:54, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Tagging of Talk:Swiss French
Hi, your bot tagged Talk:Swiss French as being within the scope of Wikiprojet France; of course, no one will mind if the participants come and improve the page, but I thought you may want to doublecheck if this page should really be tagged as such. Swiss French refer to the particularities of the French language as it is spoken in Switzerland; there is a clear connection with French, the language, but not so clear with France itself. Cheers, Schutz 12:16, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Tagging of Canadian articles
Hello. Your bot has been tagging articles related to Canada (mostly to Quebec) with the Wikiproject France tag. It is no more appropriate tagging these articles with the WF tag than it would be to tag United States with Wikiproject Britain. Could you please reverse the excessive and unnecessary tagging. Thanks. Skeezix1000 13:05, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Your message
I regret I can't decipher your message: "There are many pages where this redirect was introduced by you today, could you also revert them." Revert what? If you are referring to the note about a redirect page left by User:Mikkalai on my Talk Page, I responded in full at the page he requested. If you or he disagree with me, by all means, please do a Wikipedia:Requests for comment.
P.S. â you should note User:Mikkalai warns not to leave messages on his Talk Page. However, his insulting a Wikipedia contributor is not only a violation of the Wikipedia:No personal attacks policy, but making unfounded assumptions as part of that attack is the conduct of an imbecile. --- Handicapper 16:28, 3 February 2007 (UTC) (MBA, CFA)
[edit] WikiProject France tags
I have undone a number of the WikiProject France tabs added to talk pages by STTWbot (talk). They seem to have been added indiscriminantly to pages that have nothing to do with France: for example, Canadian, Belgian, Swiss, Moroccan newspapers, pages on Canadian literature, Canadian schools, as well as pages dealing with the French language, but outside France. I have corrected over 50 pages already. Can you do something with your bot to correct this error? Thanks. â Grstain | Talk 14:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- In reply to your message on my talk page:
- please note that it seems that you were tagging pages with such categories as French language, French-language literature, French-language newspapers, French language schools and French-English translators, all categories which may or may not be connected with France. Thanks. â Grstain | Talk 12:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I've removed the tag from Lâamour de loin for example - in spite of the title, this is a work by a Finnish composer. Could you please fix the problems with the bot before you let it proceed any further. It isn't very discriminating and it still isn't respecting the order of templates already on the talk pages. Thanks. --Folantin 14:45, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Just a note to say that I've removed the Wikiproject France tag which was (at the time, correctly!) added by the above Bot to the Talk page for I Lombardi alla prima crociata. I've hived off the detail about the considerably revised French version of the opera to Jérusalem, a stub that I've just created, and I've inserted the tag on the Talk page of the latter. --GuillaumeTell 17:14, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Please do not tag Air France-KLM. This is an international holding company that doesn't even have 50% French ownership. The bot has been tagging lots of pages of this nature, such as CFM International. Please stop. —Joseph/N328KF (Talk) 22:53, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi. In response to what feels like "inaccurate project france tagging" onto French-Belgian Project Comics articles, we did revert the first round of STTWbot actions (exclusively Belgian-related articles, shallow French connections) leaving be where there was a case for Project France interest, but now the bot has gone back and re-covered all its incorrect tracks. Any chance it can rectify this by itself, as it is boring and time-consuming to fix.. :( âMURGH disc. 05:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for informing, I will remove the wrongly tagged articles after manually going through the category. STTW (talk) 07:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] WikiProject France template - "importance"
STTW - is the "importance" section of the WikiProject France template working?-- NYArtsnWords 16:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
- The template is working, I corrected the error on Paris. Most probably that is why you contacted me. STTW (talk) 17:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
-
- No, actually is was in relation to the History of France page, among others... I set the importance there to "top", but it remains categorized as "importance unassessed". Unlike other templates, I have yet to see any of the WikiProject France templates indicate "importance", only "quality". --NYArtsnWords 23:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you!
Hey, thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia! I have read a lot about what I'm supposed to do but I'm sure there's a lot more I should know (like how to sign). Question: some pages don't have any footnotes at all. That seems strange to me. Aren't articles supposed to have lots of independent references? Thanks again. Frankskey 21:08, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Stride logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Stride logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Your bot and WP:Portugal
Hi there,
I've noticed that your bot helps out with WikiProjects France and Germany. Is it possible that it would also help WP:Portugal? Would you set it to do it, then? I believe it would be really helpful.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (please join WP:Portugal or WP:SPOKEN) 16:13, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm pretty much the guy leading the project, so if that counts for anything just tell me what I need to do to help you get the approval. I'm not an admin, though, which isn't surprising since no one ever thought I was worth even a barnstar.--Saoshyant talk / contribs (please join WP:Portugal or WP:SPOKEN) 16:31, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Germany tagging
Thank you for your work with the stub categories! If you have good suggestions how we can organize the rest of the tagging work, I'd love to hear them (as I don't trust the category system, I'm tagging in a semi-automated way with my AWB account Kusma using AWB when I get around to it, but don't think we should tag several subcategories deep - this has resulted in lots of annyoances and trouble with other project tags). Are there any stub categories left or have you done all of them? Kusma (è¨è«) 16:58, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm trying to do the tagging slowly and partly by hand, as that means I manage to get an "importance" parameter in when I have heard of the article's subject every now and then. Perhaps we should generate a category list and then have people tackle some parts of it? If you can create a category list, we could work from that. Probably the best place to discuss is the project's talk page, though :-) Happy editing, Kusma (è¨è«) 17:26, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Images and infoboxes
Hi! I'm slightly confused about what I've done wrong with wiki markup for one or the other of those. I added the city infobox to Kutná Hora yesterday, but the picture that was supposed to be at the start of the "Architecture" section, on the left, won't show until the very bottom of the infobox. I'm too impatient to wait for someone to come along and notice/fix it, so... Why's it doing that? I didn't notice any issues or special markup on other city pages that I checked when I tried to fix the problem, any idea what's wrong? Thanks, -Bbik 04:41, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Template substitution. The radio stations project template is a textbook example of the kind of template that should be substituted rather than called. Bearcat 17:22, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
- Both of those took place long before Wikipedia began to encourage substitution for templates. The way it was explained to me, server load can become an issue if templates are always called rather than substituted. Also, I don't particularly see what kind of expansion is likely on the radio station template. Bearcat 22:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

You changed USA to USA. Note that you don't really need to do that; see Wikipedia:Redirect#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken, where it says:
- In particular, there should never be a need to replace with redirect. That is, there should be no need to replace a redirect with a piped link to the target if the description is exactly the same as the redirect title.
- Some editors have the mistaken impression that fixing redirected links improves the capacity of the Wikipedia servers. Because editing a page uses much more resources than following a redirect, the opposite is true. It is inadvisable to worry about performance anyway.
Personally, I'd think that if following redirects was expensive, the MediaWiki developers would optimize it so that it wasn't expensive any more. I don't think there's any real reason why it needs to be expensive.

I only got about 2/3 done when the philosophy got to me. Maybe next week I'll take another look. --Bejnar 19:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image source problem with Image:AndhraBank logo.png
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:AndhraBank logo.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. [edit] Image source problem with Image:Bhel logo.gif
This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Bhel logo.gif.

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:GautierBook.png
Thanks for uploading Image:GautierBook.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:HM-LOGO.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:HM-LOGO.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Newsletter n°1
Bonjour and welcome to the first WikiProject France newsletter!! It should become a monthly special of our project, but until the next issue, here are some points to consider for the month:
- In an effort to determine the active members from the inactive, all members are asked to simply sign on my special userpage.
- I have slightly rearranged and updated the Project page, putting all the featured lists in collapsible tables. This unclutteres the page and you only have to see them if you want to. Give your feelings at the talk page.
- I have made a Wikipedia advert for our project, Image:Qxz-ad108.gif, what do you think? Personally I feel the words need improving ...
- There are still map problems at Template:French commune - any help at resolving them would be greatly appreciated.
- What about starting a monthly drive? We currently have no Featured Portals (except for the Basque Portal which really isn't French any way), so how about improving Portal:France??? I don't know what's exactly wrong but the criteria can be seen at Wikipedia:Featured portal criteria.
It doesn't seem like a lot, so I hope we will still have enough problems for nexts months issue. Salut till the next issue, ChrisDHDR (17:20, 10 November 2007 (UTC)).
