[edit] French castles

I notice you made some edits to some of my pages on French castles and added some more to the List of French castles page. Many thanks for that. Somehow, I took on that page when I noriced that many of the entries there were not actually castles, but palaces or even vineyards - the problem from translating the French word château. Since then, I have slowly but surely translating as best I can suitable articles from the French wiki - a massive task (and getting bigger now you've added more!!). From your user name and looking at a list of your contributions, it appears that you also interested in French culture, so, if you have the time and the interest, how about joining me in trying to get some more castle pages in the English wiki?

Once again, thanks for your edits - much appreciated. Emeraude 18:29, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I see you've added a translation of Château de Blandy-les-Tours from French. Well done. I hope you don't mind that I made a few changes, in particular to some of the vocabulary. The French use château fort to mean castle, as distinct from other type of château. Donjon is keep in English (dungeon being usually the underground part). Enceinte is best translated, I think, as the English arcitectural term curtain wall and cour as courtyard. Pierre meulière I think is millstone grit or gritstone, used of course for making millstones. I also took the liberty of adding the tag at the bottom to say that the article was a translation from French wiki. Great work - well done. Emeraude 15:51, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Castles list

Thank you - a great holiday. I found some information about many castles in the Hérault departement which is now in Castles in Hérault and Château de Pézenas. (I actually stay in Pézenas several times a year so I know the area well.)

I am still not sure about how to arrange the List. I have kept my version up-to-date, so whatever is decided it should be very easy to merge yours, mine and the original. I have looked at the various French Wikipedia lists - the alphabetical lists are too complicated, but the lists by department and by region seem to be manageable. But which to choose? I think we only need one list. I am beginning to think yours is the easier, but the maps do get in the way. Smaller perhaps? Let's give it a few days and see if anyone else comments. I will also ask for suggestions from the Wikipedia France project and see if they have any suggestions. (See Wikipedia talk:France-related topics notice board.) Emeraude 11:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject France

Hello! We are a group of editors working to improve the quality of France related articles. You look like someone who might be interested in joining us in the France WikiProject and so I thought I'd drop you a line and invite you! We'd love to have you in our project :-) STTW (talk) 13:15, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Cantons of the Seine-et-Marne department is informative, but I feel a template to it, showing perhaps the map would be more interesting, as not all are familiar with geography of France. Perhaps I will try to make a template which would ease up this work. Happy editing, STTW (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DYK!

Updated DYK query On 26 January 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Château de Rochechouart, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

List of castles in France: I have looked at the users' suggestions and comments and have made a new draft that I think could be the way forward. It uses the basic format drafted by User:M-le-mot-dit and the sort of layour used in the French Wiki.
My proposal, with notes and explanation is at User:Emeraude/Castles2.

Thank you for your edit to this article. However, how do you know that Mr Waley was writing about Auvergne (province) and not Auvergne (region)?--Runcorn 15:07, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixig my link to Lorraine, I guess I didn't notice I linked to a disambiguation page rather than the right article! Cheers! IntinnTalk! 09:57, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

Please use edit summaries for new pages that are more informative than "new article". We already know that it's a new article. ☺ You'll assist new page patrollers greatly even if you simply use a summary such as "{{IledeFrance-geo-stub}}". Uncle G 16:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Little context in Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée, by Gordafarid (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Communauté de communes de la Brie Boisée itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Communes de France

HI thanks for your work on French communes I've been doing Pas-de-Calais and we still have tens of thousands of articles missing. I've just started Tortequesne but could you show me how to get the locator map working. I don't understand x and y. PLease respond thanks ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 10:57, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes - how do you know the x and y pins on the map? they look unrelated to the cordinates. You see I like yourself want to add a locator map for every new article as I feel they help people better ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 11:03, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

I've figured a way to get them from dutch wikipedia. I use the french wiki template and I can get them from dutch wikipedia. This way my new articles can be like Tortequesne. I would love to see an article on every commune in France standardized with a locator/map and infobox like this. I wonder why at over 2 million articles most of France is still missing when lesser wikipedias all have articles on them? Keep up the good work ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 11:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your clean up and improvements on Guimiliau, etc, the Breton parish closes. I got these started in August and September because I thought they deserved some real attention. Your information boxes and other additions have really given them a more uniform and coherent look.Sjwells53 (talk) 20:07, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Keep up the good work. Essonne was next on my list. I started with AIn and have now reached Doubs, I;ll continue later tomorrow. Sorry if they are stibs but I really want to kill of those red links which have been missing far too long. Its about time the pages were set up. What we want eventually of course is those lovely looking infoboxes and those good lookin maps that you do. Regards! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ $1,000,000? 22:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguation of Mercedes(-Benz)

Hi M-le-mot-dit. When you are disambiguating motorsport-related instances of "Mercedes" or "Mercedes-Benz", can you please try to ensure that you disambiguate to (the article) Mercedes-Benz in motorsport rather than (the redirect) Mercedes-Benz motorsport. Thanks. DH85868993 03:00, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trémilly

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Trémilly, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Nully-Trémilly. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 19:31, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 17:41, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Château de Fontenoy-le-Château

Sorry to have taken so long to reply to you - I was in France for two weeks.

Your translation is very good. I have made a few alterations which I think improve its English style and I hope you agree. Emeraude (talk) 12:30, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

No, I didn't visit any castles. I was too busy. But I have a number on my list that I will look at when I go back again in June. Emeraude (talk) 18:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
