[edit] Background
The story of the Singaporean British community roughly follows that of the British Chinese community, as many Singaporeans are actually of Chinese descent. There is a large Singaporean diaspora in the UK, due to Singapore once being a British colony and now being part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
[edit] Demographics
40,180 Singaporean-born people were living in the UK in 2001, with an even larger number with Singaporean ancestry. The Singaporean British population has increased by 19.05% since 1991, when 33,751 Singaporean people resided in the UK [2]. By the next census (2011), there is likely to be in excess of 100,000 people of Singaporean descent living in the UK.
