[edit] Interests
My name is Shahid. My biggest interests in wikipedia are:
- Bollywood, and anything related.
- Rekha
- Preity Zinta (after months of hard work it's finally an FA!)
- Every other thing which could interest me.
I love very much Bollywood, because I have grown up watching Hindi films. In my opinion, Bollywood is the best film industry. But I definitely enjoy Hollywood films too.;)
[edit] Actors
- Favorite actors
- Raj Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty from old and classic cinema.
- Anil Kapoor, a brilliant actor, he has given brilliant performances, my favourite being Beta.
- Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. My favourite actors all the way and anyday. They're actors who always act from the heart.
- Salman, from Maine Pyar Kiya, JPKHH, HAHK to Tere Naam (and all of his comedies as well), has always impressed me with the naturalness and the simplicity with which he acts.
- Akshay has always been my favorite, the super hero whom I tried to emulate. I like all of his 90s films: from his very first film, Saugandh, to the Khiladi series, Yeh Dillagi, Mohra, Aflatoon etc... Today, I think he is one of the most underrated actors in the industry.
- Shahrukh Khan - regarding Shahrukh, he has strong acting skills which were noticed especially in the beginning of his career with Baazigar, Anjaam and KHKN. His mainstream days introduced some of Bollywood's best romantic films.
- Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Aamir and Saif are also brilliant actors, everyone in his own way. I remember them from the very outset of their work.
- Today: Hrithik Roshan is a good actor. I was really impressed with his challenging roles and great performances in Fiza and Lakshya. Shiny Ahuja also seems to be a good actor.
- Hollywood and more: Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise, Sylvester Stallone, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Antonio Banderas.
[edit] Actresses
- The Eternal Diva - Formerly, I was a die-hard fan of Rekha. Her performances in films like Umrao Jaan and Khoon Bhari Maang are some of the best performances Bollywood has ever seen by its actresses. For me, she will always be The Eternal Diva. THE BEST!
- I like Preity Zinta a lot. I think she is one of the best actresses in Bollywood. I've always followed her immense progression down the years. I like her bubbly personality, and was immensely excited by every performance of hers, from Sangharsh to KK to CCCC to DHT to KHNH to VZ to SN to KANK
- Favorite actresses
- Nargis, Nutan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan from old and classic cinema.
- Dimple Kapadia is so realistic. She has an amazing naturalness in her performances, and you must see her in Kaash.
- Madhuri Dixit - A brilliant actress, and one of the most beautiful women in the world.
- Juhi Chawla - Her beauty, comic timing and seriousness at the same time. I've seen almost all her films.
- I ADORE Manisha Koirala, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar. Beautiful, talented with amazing acting skills.
Manisha is perfect in everything she does, she is the best actress of the 90s.
Karisma, after years of comedies gave an amazing performance in Fiza, and later on surprised with Rishtey and Shakti.
Urmila is WOW! Her psychological abilities as an actress are unbelievable, just like the brilliant Nutan had. No other actress of her generation has these abilities except for Manisha. And she's a great dancer.
- Kajol & Rani Mukerji - Kajol has that irresistible charisma. She was superb in strong films like Baazigar and Dushman and was brilliant in all time Yashraj romances like Yeh Dillagi and DDLJ.
I mostly liked Rani in Saathiya and Black.
- Nowadays - I think Vidya Balan and Ayesha Takia have the potential to become the next stars. Konkona Sen Sharma is a BRILLIANT actress and I see her as the leading actress of Indian art cinema.
- Smita Patil & Divya Bharti were great actresses. I'm really painful for their untimely death.
- The most underrated
- Raveena Tandon - Although Tandon won the NFA, she is still underrated. She's given brilliant performances in films like Aks and Satta.
- Shilpa Shetty - As for Shetty, Phir Milenge and Dhadkan should have done way more than they actually did for her.
- Unfortunately, the above-mentioned Manisha, Urmila and Juhi also belong to this list.
- Hollywood and more - Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Vivian Leigh, Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Sophia Loren.
Oh there are a lot of... Overall I like all kinds of films. The most important aspects to me are acting and directing.
- The Commercial Hindi cinema is fantastic. Raj Kapoor films and Yash Raj Films are all-time romantic and unforgettable films (with this eternal amazing music...), and Yash Chopra is the best director. I've grown up with his films and he is one of those who created the culture of Bollywood. Karan Johar seemed to be a big fan of Chopra as he followed the history with hard work. Rajshri films always make me feel good. These old-fashioned films always warm the cockles of the heart. Mahesh Bhatt (and all his relatives etc), is a director who can make both commercial and art films, for example the difference between Murder and Arth. Rakesh Roshan deserves applauses for his films, especially for Khoon Bhari Maang
Overall, I'll point out only a few titles which come to my mind, since there are lots of. My favorite film of the 2000s is Fiza. That's all;)
I enjoy

In general, I like all kinds of music:
- I also like Indian music. Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle are world living legends. The music of R D Burman, Nadeem-Shravan Jatin-Lalit and Anu Malik is so exciting.
- Middle eastern and trilled songs, especially Turkish music.
- I adore Spanish music (Yolandita Monge, Alejandro Sanz, Ednita Nazario, Julio Iglesias, Gloria Estefan and all kinds of rhythmic latin music).
- Italian music (Toto Cutugno, Laura Pausini)
- I love English Music, all of the all!-
- Ballads, Soul, Rock, Hip-Hop and of course Blues (Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Enrique Iglesias, R kelly, Aretha Franklin etc. etc.)
- Fifties-Sixties (Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Elvis Presley, The Beatles)
- Italo disco (Modern Talking, C. C. Catch, Bad Boys Blue)
- I also enjoy listening to Ethnic music (AKA New Age music), like Enigma, Gregorian (band), Ofra Haza etc.
However, I'm not here to glorify my favorites. I'm working on every single page. I want to help the Bollywood pages. I think they're really deprived. I'd also like to work on other pages as well, but I want to concentrate on one thing now.:)
- My work in Wikipedia includes
- Creating [and ususally writing] film and actor articles, as well as lists, templates, cats etc.
- Cleaning up film and actor articles
- Expanding film and actor articles (to make them look good and to raise their status up.)
- Reverting vandalism anywhere.
- As said above, every other thing which could interest me.
For further information, see my contributions list below.
[edit] Important proverbs collection for life...
- "Sin and love and fear are just sounds that people who never sinned nor loved nor feared have for what they never had and cannot have until they forgot the words..." (William Faulkner)
- "Death is terrifying, but it would be even more terrifying to find out that you are going to live forever and never die." (Anton Chekhov)
- "If you really think about it, everything is wonderful in this world, everything except for our thoughts and deeds when we forget about the loftier goals of existence, about our human dignity." (Anton Chekhov)
[edit] I emulate (at least try to...)
All of them are brilliant editors. I just hope I could work as they worked. They are so fair-minded and try to make justice to every article.

[edit] Important steps
- Fighting for redirecting Rekha Ganesan to Rekha. It was a hard task... In fact, very hard!!!
- Fighting for Adding the National Film Awards to {{infobox actor}}. Afterwards, displaying it on different infoboxes.
- Creating the {{Filmfare Awards}} and adding the template to the award categories.
- Cleaning up the Category:Bollywood. Going through all the pages categorized under this cat and removing the cats where actually they don't belong.
- Also creating category pages for Category:Bollywood film clans and Category:GIFA Awards.
- Created Category:Film and Television Institute of India alumni and added the cat to the institute's alumni pages.
- Organized the page Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, it was a mess... and very confusing as well.
- Cleaned-up all articles on films starring Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.
- I've been the main contributor of the Preity Zinta article for almost a year-and-half now. My history with the article was long!! My biggest dream was always to make it FA. But it was not an easy task; it was actually the opposite! It was first listed as GA, thanks to the help of Blof, and later approved as A-class biography article. However, its FAC turned out as a whole mess - it failed, and was delisted from GA. That was tough, but then, thanks to the help of Dwai and John, it was improved further. But there was no end to obstacles, and even after taking a peer review, it did not get listed as GA, and we had to start a GA reassessment to make it GA. Following that, after further work, copyedits and improvement, I thought it was time to face another FAC, but because of what had happened before, I thought it would be better to take another PR to be sure. And the second long FAC, which at some points seemed to be waiting for the same results as the previous one, it passed FA!!! After months of work, two GANs, two PRs, and two FACs (and many discussions in different noticeboards as well), it finally passed FA on May 27, 2008!!!
Did you that Hema Sardesai is the only Indian singer to win the Grand Prix at the 16th International Pop Song Festival in Germany?
Did you know that India's Red and White Bravery Awards were renamed the Godfrey Phillips National Bravery Awards after protests claimed it provided surrogate advertising for Red and White brand cigarettes?
- Kaash (created and written by me):
Did you know that Kaash, was the last Hindi film in which Kishore Kumar did playback singing?
Hopefully I can say, this list will only increase gradually with the time (and it does, I just can't bother updating it all the time:-))
[edit] Before and After
Here you will find pages I've been mostly working on, and have widely exanded them. Here I give links to the page status - How it looked before my intervention and how it looks now (after)
During the indicated periods, I have contributed to these articles more than every other editor (sorry for boasting:)). That's a super incomplete list, just for a general example. There are so many more, but I think it's enough as an expression of my work on different pages. Cheers!
