The Shōnan-Shinjuku Line (湘南新宿ライン Shōnan Shinjuku Rain?) is a railway service in Japan which commenced in December 2001 connecting the cities of Saitama, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura, and Odawara. It is not a distinct railway line, but rather a 78 km composite line formed by portions of the Takasaki Line, Utsunomiya Line, Saikyō Line, Yokosuka Line, and Tōkaidō Main Line.

Initially, services were operated using a mixture of rolling stock, including 115 series, 211 series, 215 series (double-deck), E217 series, and E231 series EMUs, but rolling stock was standardized on the E231 series EMUs in 2004, from which date these trains also included two bilevel Green cars.
The following types of services run on the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line:
[edit] Local trains (普通 Futsū?)
Local trains go from the Utsunomiya Line through the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line to the Yokosuka Line and vice versa, making all station stops.
[edit] Rapid service (快速 Kaisoku?)
- Takasaki Line rapid services run from the Takasaki Line through the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line to the Tōkaidō Main Line and vice versa. These trains do not stop at Nishi-Ōi, Shin-Kawasaki, Hodogaya or Higashi-Totsuka stations.
- Utsunomiya Line rapid services run from the Utsunomiya Line through the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line to the Yokosuka Line and vice versa. Between Oyama and Ōmiya on the Utsunomiya Line, these trains only stop at Koga, Kuki and Hasuda stations. On the Shōnan-Shinjuku and Yokosuka Lines, these trains make all station stops.
[edit] Special Rapid service (特別快速 Tokubetsu Kaisoku?)
Special Rapid trains run from the Takasaki Line through the Shōnan-Shinjuku Line to the Tōkaidō Main Line and vice versa, making limited station stops.
