Passnet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Passnet (パスネット Pasunetto?) is the name for the stored-fare system using magnetic cards of the 22 members of the Passnet Association in the Kantō region of Japan. It was launched on October 14, 2000 with 1,000, 3,000 and 5,000 yen varieties.
The Passnet system is superseded by the Pasmo contactless smart card system introduced on March 18, 2007. Sales of Passnet cards will cease from January 11, 2008, and they will no longer be able to be used in ticket gates from March 15, 2008. Passnet cards will be still be able to be used to purchase tickets from ticket machines after this date, and will still be valid on the Maihama Resort Line, which does not currently support Pasmo cards.[1]
