[edit] The situation in Canada

As of today, December 27, 2007, stores have the XBox and PS3 versions of the game, but not the PS2 version. Can't seem to find any word about when that will be available in Canada. Frasor (talk) 22:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

The ps2 release date for Canada is contradicted on the right side section by the main article itself. Has it been released as of the 27th or is the release date the 9th of January? bestbuy.ca says "releases Jan. 9." That's where I got the date. However, Toys R Us has it stocked as of today and if it was available at Best Buy stores on December 30th, that contradicts even Best Buy's own information, so who knows? Frasor (talk) 20:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I worked at best buy in the media division during the holiday season and we had conflicting dates, so as employees we had no idea at first. But one day in late December (i cant remember now, but its in the Wiki history) we were allowed to put three ps2 bundles out on the floor. And it was completely legit. The only thing mentioned in this article is that there is "no official announcement regarding a Wii version".

    • Actually, there was an article at Rock band until somebody decided to merge it a couple of weeks ago (and that wasn't even a clear consensus). Consulting this talk page, a few sections up, it's clear that this page was just moved from Rock Band a little while ago, so before anybody decides to move it back, I thought I'd try to bring all the discussion to the same page. I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it.   1. Image:Rock band cover.jpg This image should be reuploaded at a smaller size (around 400px for one of the dimensions) according to 3b of the Non-free content criteria. Once it is uploaded to a smaller size, add {{non-free reduced}} to the image page. The same goes for Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg and Image:Rockband-band-world-tour.jpg.
  2. The article was interesting to read and only had a few minor problems. Good job on getting the free images of the instruments. My addition that the drumsticks are manufactured by Vic Firth has been undone twice, once without comment and again with a note about Roland and non-branding.

Harmonix press release stated that Vic Firth manufactured the supplied drum sticks, and this is reinforced by in-game content and the printed literature. In-game mention especially points to reference as this is static content. The one packaged in the bundle and the guitar controller that will be sold separately are the same. They can be used as bass or lead guitar. According to GameStop's website, the wireless guitar, drum set, and microphone (for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) will each be sold separately and will be available on March 04, 2008. Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg is a screenshot of Rock Band, demonstrating the user interface for playing each instrument.

The problem is that there have been few edits (such as this edit) that have changed the bass and lead guitar from
bass (left), drums (middle), lead guitar (right), vocals (top)
bass (right), drums (middle), lead guitar (left), vocals (top)

I don't know if it is possible to change what area of the screen you play on when playing offline in Rock Band, however, I do know that it is possible to do that in the Guitar Hero games (such as Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Since I don't have the game, I don't know if this edit is correcting the article or if it is vandalism. What I do know (based on videos I've seen on YouTube) is that when you play online, icons display to show what each instrument/part each player is playing.

Is there a way to tell which side bass and lead guitar is on in Image:Rock-band-screen.jpg? If there is, someone should update the image with that note somewhere to prevent further confusion.

The blue bg of the left track occurs when the bass player hits "Bass groove" (if it were overdrive, the edges would have yellow patterns as well). --MASEM 22:11, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Only during the solo tour when activating Overdrive. In Band World Tour, Overdrive multiplies the entire band's score, and shows up on top instead of adding to each instrument's multiplier. --Maxamegalon2000 18:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Correction: Rock Band redirects to Rock Band (video game) while Rock band redirects to Rock music. It is very likely that anyone searching for the video game will capitalize the "B" when they type it, which will bring them to the correct article. For the very few instances where someone doesn't capitalize the "B", then they will end up on the wrong page. I think that 'rock band,' 'Rock Band,' and 'Rock band' should all redirect to the video game page. If you put yourself into the position of someone searching up any of those, it would most likely be for the game, and not for a band that plays rock music. I agree that most searchers don't capitalize and people who search "rock band" are probably looking for the game. The issue is that there are a ton of pages that link to Rock band that aren't about the video game. Have a look at just a few. [edit] Crowd singing

Should it be mentioned somewhere that if you play good enough the crowd will sing along to some of the songs? It's not an extremely important detail, but since the game stresses playing as a band, and even has a system for counting fans - I thought maybe it might be something to consider. I personally love it when the crowd is singing along. It tells me I am playing well, but it also enhances the experience just a bit. Just a thought.--Magus05 (talk) 09:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

EA is updating their hardware. For example, the drum sets started with version EL, then went to QM, and there is a new version SL.

As Gibson guitars has gone and sued RB's makers for the same thing it's arguing at Activision about, I think it is wise to keep the discussion of the legal issues to one article; thus, I've added the mention here, but I've pointed the discussion to what is there at the Guitar Hero (series) page, and recommended that only very specific RB related info on the case be added here as it develops. --MASEM 22:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Several times it's been removed, because apparently I've made a little mistake. Could we, y'know, at least keep that line of mine in there, because ignoring the problem does not contribute to a solution. Okay... let's try this again. There is no way to cite this fact, because EA/Harmonix won't go around telling people that they don't have a release date. It's only through excessive nagging that the people on the Rock Band forums even got to HEAR they can't offer a date yet. Only through that I've found that source.

[edit] Stage Show Peripherals

I recently saw, at a Florida Gamestop, that there is a new peripheral coming out for Rock Band that consists of stage show items inluding a mini stage, stage lights, and a fog machine and maybe more. It said on the display box that it was for the Xbox 360. Don't know if there will be a PS3 version. I was checking around the citations, and it is unknown that the Nyko Frontman Controller will be compatible with the future version of Rock Band for the Wii. [edit] Australian release date

I've noticed the Australian release date come and go on this page, and I'm wondering if it's reliabe. I mean, it's not far after the UK release date, in fact for most consoles it's BEFORE it, and there was a big announcement and song and (very angry) dance about that (and the price), whereas Australia has nothing - just PALGN's word. Unless I'm missing something. Can anyone tell me how PALGN knows this? Are they usually reliable? Also, the PalGN page says the Wii version will come out here on that same day, but that's not in the release date section. Should I add it?202.1.119.225 (talk) 14:07, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World

I added a blurb in the awards section about the creators being named 2 of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by Time Magazine. I read this in a copy of the magazine with in the last two weeks at the doctor's office. I can't remember what month/year the article was and I don't own a copy so I can't cite it correctly and I can't remember the quote I tried to add verbatim. I think the point is valid and worthy of being entered and unfortunately I can't find my citation. Maybe someone has it out there and can add it for me, or at least point me to it so I can. I find it bizarre that "Rock Band" links here, but "rock band" links to the article about rock music and musicians... Is tis just something that has been overlooked or is this an intentional discrepancy? Hawk505 (talk) 03:36, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I believe that the the very first letter isn't case sensitive but every other letter is. So "rock Band" and "Rock Band" are the same, but "rock band" (which is the same as "Rock band") is different. TechMath (talk) 22:14, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
This is intentional and was the result of lots of fighting between the editors of this page and the editors of the now no longer existent rock band page. The issue is that lots of pages of actual bands start with "The Band Names are a rock band that..." linking to a page about rock bands in general. We didn't want to break all those links. Is there a reason why the public controversy about the pricing in (at least) Europe is reported only as a minor detail in Bundle and pricing section?
