Oben am jungen Rhein (Up above the young Rhine) is the national anthem of Liechtenstein.
The anthem is sung to the same tune as the United Kingdom's national anthem, God Save the Queen. The lyrics were written in 1850 by Jakob Josef Jauch. Until 1963, the lead line was "Oben am deutschen Rhein" ("Up above the German Rhine").
The elimination of the word 'deutsch-' (German) in the post-1963 lyrics gives testimony to the widely felt cultural ambivalence towards expressions of German nationalism following the Nazi period in Germany (1933-1945) and neighbouring Austria (1938-1945).
