The Nissan Tiida is a compact car with a US EPA midsize car rating because of its large interior space manufactured by Japanese automaker Nissan, replacing both the long-running Pulsar and the Sunny models as of September 30, 2004. Available as the Tiida in Mauritius, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Japan, South Africa, Finland, Ireland, former eastern block countries, China and Sri Lanka, it is also known in export markets as the Nissan Versa (North America) and Nissan Latio (Southeast Asia). The Tiida is based on the new global Nissan B platform with the wheelbase stretched.[citation needed] It is available in hatchback and sedan form.
Its styling was previewed with the Nissan C-Note show car a year before its launch. The models are characterized by being quite tall, a trend that resurfaced in the late 1990s. The range consists of a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan called the Nissan Tiida Latio. In New Zealand there is an additional station wagon variant, based from the Nissan Wingroad. The Tiida became available in key eastern European markets from June 2007, and is scheduled for its German launch in January 2008, but Ireland was the first country in western Europe to receive the car, due to the previous popularity there of the earlier Almera sedan, and greater general popularity in Ireland of smaller sedans compared to some other European markets.
In China, the Tiida is produced by the Dongfeng Motor Company, a joint venture between Nissan and a local company. In Taiwan it is produced by Yulon motor. It will arrive in some Eastern European countries by late 2007 to replace the Almera small family car.
In Australia, the Tiida has recently undergone a minor update, in which the ST gains ABS and there is a AUD$2000 price drop. The Tiida had advertising campaign featuring Kim Cattrall (of Sex and the City fame).

[edit] Nissan TIIDA & Nissan TIIDA Latio
The Nissan Tiida has been around since 2004 in Japan, and in select European countries since 2007. In January 2008, Nissan revealed their new facelifted Nissan Tiida (hatchback) and Tiida Latio (sedan).
The 5-door hatchback Tiida and 4-door sedan Tiida Latio have been enhanced with some key changes including new exterior features and interior designs, retuned power steering, powertrain enhancements and a new Plus navi HDD package.
The exterior features a new grille, front bumper, headlamps, taillights, rear bumper and new wheel covers. Inside you find a more modern look as well as better visibility and usability, new instrument cluster design and metallic-finish dash panels.
Under the hood sits a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder or 1.8 liter engine, of which the larger can be coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. There are also two optional dealer packages available, namely the new Nismo S-tune Aero Package and Nismo Performance Package which really put some 'umph' into the hatch or sedan.
[edit] Nissan Versa
The Versa was introduced in the United States and Canada in July 2006 as a 2007 model. North and Latin American models of the Tiida use a DOHC 1.8 L gasoline engine and are assembled at Nissan's Aguascalientes, Mexico assembly plant.
The Versa is Nissan's current entry-level model in North America, while the Nissan Sentra, the previous entry-level model, moved upmarket with its latest redesign. The Versa models are manufactured in Aguascalientes, Mexico, unlike the Tiida models that are built in Japan.
The North American Versa debuted at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in January of the same year. The hatchback model was introduced first, with the sedan arriving later at the end of the year. Both vehicles are 2007 models. The Versa is powered by a 1.8 L I4 MR series engine producing 122 hp (91 kW) and 127 ft·lbf (170 N·m). Three transmissions will be offered: a 4-speed automatic, a continuously variable transmission, and a 6-speed manual. It is the only car in its class (in the North American market) to offer a six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment.
It is rumored that the 2009 model year may bring an SE or SE-R version with the 1.8 liter engine, making a little more power, an upgraded suspension, and ultra-low sulfur diesel engines. Nissan may also add the 3D navigation system as an option[citation needed].Currently, the base MSRP ranges from US$12,800 to 14,800.
Nissan has reported a Nismo-trim Versa will be available, including a sport suspension, more aggressive wheel and tire package, along with some distinguishing interior and exterior styling cues. Many Nissan accessories are available for the Tiida, but there is no word yet from the company when they will be brought to North America.
The Versa is listed as a mid-size car by the EPA. Sales have been limited by short supply, and many dealers are pre-selling and charging additional markups. 2,956 Versas were sold during the summer of 2006.
The Versa is the only car in its class with optional Bluetooth connectivity for electronic devices. Commercials for the Versa are parodies of the numerous Erectile Dysfunction pill advertisements like those of Levitra and Viagra. The Versa was subject to conspicuous product placement by Nissan on the NBC show Heroes.
In 2007, the first European countries began receiving imports of the Versa, although British sales have yet to start. British buyers have so far been without a Nissan product in this crucial sector since the demise of the Almera in November 2006.
In 2008-01-11, Chrysler announced an OEM version of Nissan Versa sedan for limited distribution in South America beginning in 2009.[2]
