Nissan SR engine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SR engine is a 1.6 L, 1.8 L, or 2.0 L straight-4 4-stroke from Nissan. It is an aluminum DOHC 4-valve design, with some versions incorporating variable valve timing. The engine was used in many small to medium Nissan vehicles, including high-performance turbocharged variants. Power output shown is JIS Net PS or ECE Net kilowatts unless otherwise indicated.

[edit] SR20DE and SR20De

The Nissan SR20DE engine is one of the most successful engines made by Nissan and is used in over 15 Nissan models. It first appeared in Nissan's Bluebird in October of 1989, and has migrated into many other models of cars since then, from sports cars, to family saloons and even people movers.

The breakdown of the engine code is as follows:

  • SR - Engine Code
  • 20 - 2.0 Litres
  • D - Dual Overhead Cam
  • E - Electronic Fuel Injection
  • e - SR20DE LEV-version

The SR20DE is a 2.0 L DOHC (1998 cc) engine; it originally produced 134hp (100 kW). This later increased to 140hp (104kW), which eventually became 165 PS (163 hp/121 kW) through the use of Nissan's VTC variable valve timing system in the S14 and S15 Nissan Silvia. There was also a LEV-version with 125 hp (93 kW) and 132 hp (98 kW). It was built from 1990 through 2002. The bore and stroke are both 86 mm (3.4 in). It uses SEFI. The redline for the lowport SR20DE is 7200 rpm and for the highport SR20DE 7800 rpm. There was a special "Autech" version with 175 PS (N15) and 180 PS (P10).

It is used in the following vehicles:

The SR20DET is a turbocharged and intercooled version of the SR20DE, initially producing 205 PS (150 kW) in the S13 Nissan Silvia and 180SX. The second generation in the S14 Silvia produced 220 PS (166 kW) through the use of Nissan's VTC variable valve timing and a ball bearing turbocharger. The final S15 Silvia version produced 250 PS (187 kW) @6400 rpm and 275 N·m (203 ft·lbf) @4800 rpm with an improved Inconel impeller wheel for its turbocharger. The SR20DET has become a common engine swap for a wide spectrum of cars ranging from Nissan Sentras (using FWD versions of the SR engine), to Datsun 510s (Datsun 1600) because of its compact size, RWD format, and its oem turbo. Very popular s13/s14 us conversion.

The Nissan Pulsar GTI-R version was developed as a World Rally Championship homologation engine. It received Quad throttle body and a Garrett T28 turbocharger, larger injectors, as well as a large top-mount intercooler.

It was available in the following vehicles:

Several other Nissan Vehicles that didn't come with a SR20DET from the factory are commonly transplanted with this engine as a performance upgrade:

It is used in the following vehicles:
