Marasmusine, thanks for tidying up the Skillion roof article. I will say you guys are quick, where do you find the time? Cheers, Bill, billbeee 09:47, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Ooooh... I'll read and digest your comments tomorrow :> MarašmusïneTalk 23:00, 11 July 2007 (UTC) (from archive 3) I guess they gave you indigestion? ;) (hope I didn't just miss an answer) Felisse 22:41, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I didn't know what to say! My problem with rankings on places like topmudsites is that they are automatically generated with no editorial oversight. It's a ranking of how much the games themselves push the players to click that vote link, and how often, and I've seen games reward players with things like extra action points for doing so. Ultimately what I'm looking for as a reference for popularity in any article is an independent, reliable reviewer saying "game X is a popular game" (regardless of what his sources are). Regarding your ideas about SnakRates, I'm not sure, I'd have to see how it applies on individual articles. I'm not sure I'd mention anything about who's advertising what, where, unless the advert itself is noteworthy. Marasmusine 07:30, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Marasmusine, I would like some clarification on your concerns about the DUEL2 article. You mention third party verification. I am confused because the only place that I would understand this to be needed is in justifying why the article should be part of WikiPedia. To this end, I have posted reference information relating to two competitive products listing the game as a significant part of the industry as well as the only third party source still in operation and focusing on PBM, Greg Lindahl's PBM list. To further support the article I am attempting to get copies of articles published in the two 'trade' magazines for the PBM world which were prominent in the 80s and 90s which is when this industry was in its hey-day. However, only one is still in business today, so getting copies may be problematic. Can you clarify your expectations further for me? --DaculaDom 13:02, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, hi DaculaDom, I just posted something on that articles talk page. Basically, if you can get hold of the coverage from Dragon Magazine and Flagship, that should be enough to assert Duel2's notability and the material can be used to verify the information in the article. See our WP:Verifiability policy for more information. Thanks, Marasmusine 13:06, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Hey, this is me, Crack again (no, not the drug :P). I need your help. Really need some help (Not about addictions or anything like that, of course! (lol)). I was adding a sentence to the Spyro the Dragon (series) page, and it... well, screwed up the reference list. I can't tell if it was my fault or not, but... I dunno what to do. I am pretty rusty with the Wiki mark-up by now, and any tips would be appreciated, or course! I haven't lost hope just yet. By the way, I just noticed that you are an Admin. Hi, you placed a tag on the Retribution Engine article that requires sources or references. But I don't understand what is required? It doesn't make any controversial statements or claims that I know of and all the information comes from the most reliable source of information, the person who wrote the engine and has been involved in all its history, i.e. me. So I was wondering what I can do to satisfy this requirement?
- All material we place on Wikipedia should preferably come from third party sources, such as magazine reviews or articles, and in fact such coverage is usually required to assert notability. WP:Verifiability and WP:Reliable sources will explain more (note that Verifiability is a Wikipedia policy), and WP:Notability is a guideline that should help. Thanks, Marasmusine 19:01, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
I've hopefully improved the lead section of Retribution Engine. Is it ok now? I find this very difficult to gauge. If I am supposed to make statements of why the engine is notable I might make statements that are more controversial and so require sources :S It is tricky to do articles such as this I think because we are talking about internet focused projects and information and it is difficult to cite sources for such. I know my engine is listed on a large number of sites, all I have to do is do a Google search to see that, but how do I quantify/state that? I know my engine was released on cover disks for magazines but I have no record any more of what they were.
sorry I didn't see your last reply before I made my last post. It seems to me that if the Wikipedia policy is to require coverage from third party sources then there is a basic incompatibility here between the subject matter and Wikipedia. The internet gamings scene tends to be entirely independant of the mainstream publishing industry, in fact it exists to allow freedom from the bias and prejudice that exists in the mainstream publishing industry. Most magazines are only concerned with commerical game titles that offer the latest 'eye candy'. It is INCREDIBLY difficult for a free game project to even get a mention in a magazine. This doesn't make it un-noteworthy, it can have thousands of downloads and be very popular and completely come under the radar of mainstream publishing. But this stuff is really hard to quantity. Anyway, I saw that someone had added a stub to Wikipedia mentioning my game and after many months it had not been expanded. So I decided to spend what has turned out to be many hours of my valuable time constructing a useful article on my engine, based on first hand knowledge rather than the potentially prejudiced opinions of a third party source. Now I'm being told I've wasted my time because to give an authoritative article on a subject I know intimately is not Wikipedia policy! I was proud to finish my article and now I feel thoroughly deflated :(
- Sorry you feel upset, please don't take it personally. You could always revert it, I suppose. There is a disclaimer on every edit page: If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed for profit by others, do not submit it.
- I also sympathise with your comments about subject incompatability with regards internet gaming scene. Wikipedia only reports what has already been reported. Magazines like Edge are a possible source. However, I urge you not to write about projects you yourself are involved in; it will be seen as a conflict of interest. If the subject is notable, someone else will eventually write about it. Marasmusine 21:38, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] ==Wandering bladder syndrome==
Perhaps I should have tagged this one as a G3 rather than G1, but it was an obvious juvenile hoax either way (giving hints on how to look for your bladder after it's wandered off?). I don't think a redirect is appropriate as it's neither a medical or slang term for an overactive bladder (it gets a single Google hit, from a silly thread on somethingawful.com), so I'd suggest that as a redirect it's still a speedy - this time an R3. [edit] Redirect of El Tipo Loco®
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on El Tipo Loco®, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because El Tipo Loco® is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting El Tipo Loco®, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. I noticed that there's a lot of rubbish on the Tankmania article and a lot of stupid spam. For some reason Tankmania seems to attract that sort – not only on Wikipedia, but elsewhere too.
Nevertheless, I think it would still be good to keep the article rather than deleting it. As a method of preventing vandalism on that page could you consider to ban non-registered users from editing that article? Invenio 08:24, 22 August 2007 (UTC) tc

[edit] The Grimm Generation
Hi again -- glad to know you remember me. I appreciate the fine point you made on The Grimm Generation. I strongly suspect that this neologism exists nowhere except in that book (no related Google hits I could find), which is pretty much why I tagged it, but I'm 100% behind the way you handled it, because it was right -- if it should stay, that's the way to find out. I also note you were adding advice to a newbie that I was trying to help out (I offered him WP:BIO and WP:Notability, and you added WP:Autobiography, which I should have thought of). Ah, sorry, I didn't know it was you who used the term, otherwise I would have discussed it with you first! I was alerted to the word by an anon user who seemed very enthusiastic about adding it to articles, and I presumed they were all from him. [edit] Excuse me?
Why have you placed a deletion template on the page I created for the list? I am not discriminating against anything, I am simply cleaning up the main page. All I saw on the Digimon World: Dawn and Dusk page was a HUGE list of digimon which was not needed in the main article, so I made a classic list. Next thing I know I have another editor breathing down my neck about it. Tyler Warren 20:23, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- The reason I placed a proposed deletion template on the list is explained in the template. There's nothing of particular to note about the digimon included in the game; it is indiscriminate information. There's a recurring discussion about lists of cars in racing games on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games, with similar arguments for and against; in the end the concensus is usually to delete such lists.
- I'm not breathing down your neck. If you disagree with the proposed deletion, all you have to do is remove the prod template, per the instructions on it. Marasmusine 21:12, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ah ok, sorry, no offense meant. Cheers! Tyler Warren 00:59, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

- Here we go, issue 142, November 2004. This is the only mention of F-Zero:
The game concept had been designed by Psygnosis stalwart Jim Bowers, but when Wipeout's designer-to-be Nick Burcombe saw a SoftImage animation of two of the ships racing he became inspired: "I'd been watching over his shoulder as it took place," says Burcombe of the animation. "It reminded me a little of Powerdrome, F-Zero and Super Mario Kart. I was in the throes of finishing Mario Kart at the time and found it to be possibly the greatest game I'd ever played."
So I don't think it's correct to say that the team "most of their inspiration from" F-Zero, as that connection hadn't been made until the game design was already underway.
On the subject of inspiration, this quote is interesting:
It is somewhat ironic, then, that the origins of videogaming's most famous trendsetter were in the resolutely unfashionable grid-based strategy game Matrix Marauders, which featured vehicle designs uncannily similar to those in Wipeout.
Hope that helps, Marasmusine 18:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello Marasmusine. How do I contest your deletion of the newly created WhyClublet article on grounds that the notoriety is unproven? Did you notice that this article is also a redirect from Richard Drake, who was one of the four "WikiReductionists" who provoked the forking of MeatballWiki and WhyClublet from WikiWikiWeb? (See the article History of wikis.) What must I do to establish the notoriety of Richard Drake and WhyClublet? I suppose that I must find journal or newspaper articles concerning them, and that mere website references will not suffice? If I do find articles, to whom and how should I submit them? What is the procedure for contesting a notoriety decision? - Redeyed Treefrog 19:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

As for importance, I might point out that WhyClublet was prominently listed in the WikiWikiWeb article as a SisterSite of WikiWikiWeb, before I posted the History of wikis article. And it might also be observed that as one of the original WikiReductionists, Richard Drake was the original historical initiator of "reductions" such as lack-of-notoriety deletions! - Redeyed Treefrog 19:33, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: recent deletion of article
Hi, I recently created an article titled NEPOMAK. It was alleged that the page was "blatant advertising" and was deleted within 10 minutes of creation.
I object to this asseretion. The article refers to an established governmental orgnaisation with a world wide members base of over 10,000 people. It plays a significant role in Cypriot politics and in the lives of Cypriots in the diaspora, and an article outlining the nature of the organisation and its contributions to cypriot society (outside Cyprus) is far from advertising but indeed a worthy article in any encyclopedia.
The absence of an article of this nature has been noted by many members of the organisation, and there is a clear social concern that an article is created to highlight it's good work. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nepomak (talk • contribs) 15:18, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Articles on organizations should not be written by someone representing that organization. The first-person language used in NEPOMAK and your username makes it look promotional. I see you have deleted this article with question or consultation. IMHO anybody elected to )what was) a national legislature is rated as important - at least by those who did the electing. So this guy has perished under your jackboot. No more articles from me (under my various pseudonyms). No more donations from me. Don't bother replying, I change my IP as often as possible. 121.210.89.55 04:29, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've restored the article. Whilst speedy deletions do not require consultation, I can see now Edward Hunt passes WP:BIO for politicians. Thank you for raising the issue with me, sorry if that upset you. Marasmusine 07:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speccy list
I've got a bit of time on my hands and would be glad to help out with the list, if you still need it? As you've started from the beginning, I could start at the Z's and work backwards so there's no duplication until we meet in the middle. Let me know if that's OK, I don't want to mess up your process or anything. Cheers, Miremare 14:07, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- That would be perfect, thanks. I'm using World of Spectrum to confirm release date and publisher (which are often different to what are displayed in, for example, arcade game articles.) Marasmusine 14:29, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry I've been so inactive on this front up to now - before continuing, what do you think of implemanting the sortable list idea? If it's the way to go there doesn't seem much point in continuing with the current format - my only concern would be the size of the article, as sortable tables seem to be pretty code-hefty... Miremare 18:14, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm just looking through Help:Sorting now. I don't think it will be too much of a problem inserting the pipes between the information we've already put in, athough we would have to arrange a "release date" column and put in a whole bunch of "1988"s and what have you. I may have a crack at it now! Marasmusine 18:22, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've made a start. Can you suggest any other column? We could have original publication, although this would invariably be the UK or Spain. Developer, or possibly the licence holder, in the case of conversions (Taito, Sega etc). Marasmusine 18:35, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- License holder, or original developer, or however it should be said is a good idea, and would be especially useful with the likes of U.S. Gold. Country of origin or original publication could also be useful, though the vast majority would be UK wouldn't they? The only Spanish game I can see on a brief look over the list is La Abadia del Crimen. Are there any others, or ones from other countries? Miremare 18:55, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Dinamic Software were probably the biggest original Spanish publisher, with the likes of Navy Moves only coming to the UK on re-release (according to WoS). There were a couple of original French releases too, like Captain Blood. Actually I don't think we need to show the country of origin, as this will be apparant from the publisher's wikipedia page. Marasmusine 19:02, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I guess you're right. I was going to suggest a "notes" column, but as the games are just listed because they have Wikipedia articles, rather than because of any kind of special "notability" (other than that necessary for an article), it would probably remain empty for most titles. Anyway, I see you've converted the whole thing already, so I'd better get on with adding to it. Miremare 19:29, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, have fun, I'm off to bed :> Marasmusine 19:32, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] over-speedy
You deleted Arthur Lander as "(Speedy A7; Wikipedia is not a place to post CVs"). But he';s the chairman of his department at Irvine., and the article asserted quite a number of things that might possibly amount to notability. If you didnt think they were enough, the proper course is AFD or PROD, not speedy. I recognize the guy who contributed the article has a really dubious record, but still speedy should only be used as appropriate. Being like a CV is not a reason for speedy, but for editing. I shall be reconstituting the article properly. when I have finished, you are welcome to AfD f you like, but with a position like that , I have no doubt I will find plentyof material to support notability. - I didn't see the importance, myself, but I'll be more careful in future. Marasmusine 08:16, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] speedys for G10, attack page
I remind you that when you delete such an article, you should remove the excerpt of the contents of the article from the edit summary--it remains permanently visible. You've missed several, and there is no practical way now of fixing them. Similarly, if you're deleting as nonsense or a7 or whatever, and the content is abusive or wildly unsuitable, it is also recommended to delete it from the edit summary. You've left in such things as [title of article] is a name used for a large, lazy male of Anglo decent. It's also good to remove material that compromises the privacy of unsuspecting editors or users, eg ... she is 15 years old. We should take BLP very seriously. DGG (talk) 22:32, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I will remove article content from edit summaries from now on. Marasmusine 08:16, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
