[edit] College
He received his education at St. Albans School, excelling not only in football but also in track and field. An All-American in both sports, he decided on UCLA instead of the University of Florida because UCLA would let him run track and field. A legitimate Olympic level shot-putter, he won the 1996 NCAA indoor track title in the shot put. He had an outstanding career with the UCLA Bruins, starting as left tackle for four years. In 23 games during his junior and senior years, he allowed just two sacks. In 1995, Ogden received the Outland Trophy and the Morris Trophy, was the UPI Lineman of the Year, and was a unanimous 1st-team All-America. He decided to focus on football after college.
Ogden eventually had his jersey (#79) retired - only the eighth player in Bruins' history to receive that honor.
Odgen was inducted to UCLA Athletics Hall Of Fame in 2006.
He was a History major.
[edit] Football career
During the 1996 NFL Draft, Ogden was selected by the Ravens in the first round with the fourth overall choice, the first ever draft pick made by the Ravens.
In his twelve-year career, he has started 166 games (through 2006-2007 season) and consistently performed as one of the best offensive linemen in the league, perhaps even one of the greatest of all time. Ogden is a nine-time All-Pro and an eleven-time Pro Bowler at left tackle, earning trips to Hawaii from 1998-2007. He has also caught two passes in his career - both for one yard and both for touchdowns. He has recovered 10 fumbles in his career and also recorded 10 tackles in his NFL career. Ogden is a rare blend of both size, power and agility, excelling in both run blocking and pass blocking. Ogden allowed fewer adjusted sacks than any other Left Tackle in the National Football League in 2006.
In 2000, Ogden won a championship ring with the rest of the Ravens when they defeated the New York Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV. On March 14, 2008, it was reported that Jon Ogden informed the Ravens to assume that he would not be back for the 2008 season. Ogden was not present at the Ravens' mandatory minicamp that began on May 9, 2008.
[edit] Personal life
During the offseason Ogden makes his home in Henderson, Nevada. [1] At 6' 9", Jon is tied with fellow Raven Jared Gaither as the tallest player in the NFL.[1]
