The {{WPRT2}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

Template display formatting parameters:
- small - show the normal or reduced size template; shows the reduced size template if small=yes.
- nested - allows for the banner to be hidden with a show/hide button in conjunction with the WikiProjectBannerShell template if nested=yes.
- pre - for pre-independence articles; changes flag image to a map of sub-continent if pre=yes.
General parameters:
- class – a rating of the article's quality; see the assessment department for more details.
- FA - The article has reached Featured article status.
- FL - The article has reached Featured article status.
- A - Could be submitted as a Featured article candidate; probably could use some small updates to make it Featured quality.
- GA - The article has reached Good article status.
- B - Could be submitted as a Good article nominee; probably could use some updates or may lack some features from the Good article criteria, but it presents a good overview of the subject.
- Start - The article is more than a stub, but may lack some important aspects of the topic's discussion.
- Stub - The article is a stub; it likely contains one of the Religious texts stub templates.
- Needed - The article does not yet exist but has been identified as a subject that should be covered.
- Disambig or Dab - The article is a disambiguation page.
- Redirect or Redir - The article is a redirect page.
- Template - The page is a template.
- Category or Cat - The page is a category.
- Image or Img - The page is an image.
- List - The page is a list.
- Portal - The page is a portal.
- NA - The page is not an article and should not be rated; it could be a template, image or category, for example.
- importance – a rating of the article's importance; see the assessment department for more details.

- portal – if the article is used in the selected article queue of the Religion Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
- portal-picture – if the image is used in the selected picture queue of the Religion Portal, the subpage number of its entry.
- attention – "yes" if the article requires immediate attention; this should be used sparingly.
- collaboration-candidate – "yes" if the article is currently a candidate for the project's Collaboration of the week.
- past-collaboration – week of <date> the article was previously a Collaboration of the week, the dash-separated dates of the collaboration period; must be left blank otherwise.
- failed-collaboration – <date> the article was nominated for the Collaboration of the week, but failed to quality; must be left blank otherwise.
- peer-review – "yes" if the article is currently listed on the project's peer review department.
- old-peer-review – "yes" if the article was previously listed on the project's peer review department.
- orphan – "yes" if the article is not currently supported by a Religion WikiProject.
- needs-infobox – "yes" if the article lacks an, otherwise remove this line.
- auto – "yes" This parameter is for bot-use. It calls the {{stubclass}} template.
- image-needed – "yes" if the article needs pictures, otherwise remove this line. It adds articles to Category:Religious text articles needing images.
- portaldykdate – Date on which the article was displayed on the DYK section of the Religion portal. Format: [[Month]] [[day]], [[Year]].
- assess-date - Date last assessed. Example: assess-date={{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}

- group-portal(1-5): Can list selected articles of up to 5 portals
- group-portal-list(1-5): Can list selected lists of up to 5 portals
- group-portal-picture(1-5): Can list selected pictures of up to 5 portals
