Hi Ivo, glad to see you back in whatever role you are comfortable with. If you are still interested in the Black Haw map, see Timeline of Jane Austen for a map I did recently. I still like the red X icons for the battles, but wonder if black dots for cities, red dots for forts, and green dots for Native villages might not work better than the icons. You had a watchlist that big? I'm not mentioning any names, but IMO based on some RfCs I'm familiar with four-figure watchlists are a major recipe for problems (I only have 125+ or so, and some of them are rarely, if ever, edited by anyone). Chopping it down to manageable size is going to be the best thing you've done for yourself.

There will be more NY stuff soon, now that I'm done with a lot of the RI photo uploads. I'm coming around to responding to a lot of overdue correspondence in the meantime. Daniel Case (talk) 20:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, a friend and me might be going to see that boulder where the Banditti of the Prairie were hung. He happened to run into the guy at a bar one night, and asked for permission to go out there. We have to just check in with him, and then we can. So we are going to attempt to get some great pictures for you. Thank you! That's the first barnstar I've received. I create stubs like these all the time; check out the Nicrophorini, Acanthomorpha, Alepisauriformes, Aspidorhynchiformes, Anotopteridae pages and their daughter articles...I wrote stubs for all of those taxons and most of their listed daughter articles. Unfortunately, I don't always have time or information to give each article more than a sentence or two-- you're looking at one of my best, and I wish I could make them all this long! However, information on many of these is very hard to come by, so I am forced to leave many articles with nothing more than a taxobox and a sentence.

I'll see what I can do about your weevil. I'll put that at the top of my to-do-list for next time I'm online (no time at the moment).

Hmm. It's a bit under an hour outside of Little Rock, and I totaled my car last year . . . but, it sounds like it could be a nice little road trip getaway (not that I consider Pine Bluff to be exactly . . . scenic) for a friend and myself. I could try and talk my way into getting down there and I'd be glad to photograph it if this is possible :) I'm all for anything local (to me) on WP. Yeah it was really beautiful. Wright is just incredible. I have also more pictures (for example Robie House) which I did't put on the net (yet). Heh, it seems we have one pretty similar hobby. But I still can't implement it as I would like to. I am planning to make such a journeyes in Europe (where I am) in near future...for example Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe from the modern architecture. But also medieval and ancient castles and fortresses (which are in US actually not :) ). In Wisconsin I was to Johnson Wax Headquarters, but it was closed for the public. There are tours once a week (I think on friday, but I am not sure). So I took some photos of the exterior, but it was raining... It would be really good job to make some nice pictures of the building and its interior...  LYKANTROP  17:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
This is really funny, cause about 20km from where I live is the Villa Tugendhat. I've also seen the skyscrapers by Mies in Chicago. It was a pretty crazy travel - from Chicago with hired car to some Wisconsin places and then to Pennsylvania - Fallingwater, but not Kentuck Knob :( - and then NY. And some places on the way of course. I really will go to US for some longer time to see all the incredible buildings...places...nature... I also really recommend to visit Europe. But I still can't really imagine how it is to live in US, cause it is really very different to Europe. I hope I'll check it out for some time...  LYKANTROP  21:04, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure. In my readings on the history of Davenport, Iowa, it mentions both LeClaire, and Blackhawk several times being together. While I can't confirm or deny that he translated it, it wouldn't at all surprise me if he did. Hi Ivo, let me say again that I am glad to see you back here. Thanks too for your work at Peer Review. Here's the tentative list of settlements and Native villages I had - the dots could be wikilinked just like the parks map dots are. There are 21 settlements and forts, though only 18 seem unique (Blue Mounds and Kellogg's Grove are also battles, Fort Crawford seems to be the same as Prairie du Chien village) plus 11 Native American villages, plus the 15 battles, skirmishes and massacres which are already on the map. I am honestly not sure what happens if a dot and a label overlap, so my thought would be to keep the forts etc to the bare minimum. I also note that only 3 native villages have articles (Fox is a link to the animals) and only 11 forts have articles (not counting Kelloggs Grove, already a battle). One village (Saukenuk) and one fort (Dearborn) are already on the map, so that would be 9 more dots if we just went with what already has articles.

I don't want the map to be so busy as to be illegible, so I think we should keep all the battles and only add major forts and villages. What do you think? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:25, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I checked the {{Black Hawk War (1832)}} template and I added Fort Defiance (Wisconsin) and Wiota, Wisconsin (which is Hamilton's Diggings). A few weeks back I asked you to copyedit Aeneas Mackintosh but I came at a busy moment for you. Someone else picked it up, & I'm glad to say that the article has since been promoted to FA. If you are slightly less busy, perhaps you could look at Nimrod Expedition, now on peer review? If you haven't time for a copyedit, some comments/suggestions for improvement would be very welcome. [edit] NHL task force

You asked "I was thinking of setting up some task force pages for National Historic Landmarks within the NRHP project pages. It could be a place to compile resources and work with other like-minded individuals. Do you think this would be useful now or at some point down the road? And would you be interested in setting up some stuff to work into it? Nothing pressing...".

I haven't had any experience, positive or negative, participating on any wikipedia task force mobiliized to do anything. It feels like WP:NRHP currently has a good quorum to discuss and handle a broad range of things; i don't like the idea of splitting that if it would hurt it. But, on the other hand, if a task force would somehow involve or energize a new group of people somehow then that would be great.

Thinking about it, I wonder if an NHL-specific task force would have been useful, but perhaps is not now needed as much. I don't know what you have watched, but I have felt free to pose NHL-related proposals in NRHP (a proposal about Stub/Start/B-class ratings for NHL articles, which mostly got shot down), and to develop the NHL article-development status table on main page of WP:NRHP. And there has been useful discussion of special needs for NHL sites in terms of NRHP infobox, and so on. There are only about 200 NHL articles yet to create (out of about 2440) by the way.

I wonder more about what would serve to help articles get developed further, and to get to GA and FA rating. The whole wp:NRHP is relatively unproductive on that end. Certainly the NHL articles are good candidates to work on, as they are arguably relatively important and the NRHP docs are routinely available for them.

Another priority, a possible task force, would be to focus on all of the higher NRHP designations: the NRHPs that are also NMONs, NMEMs, NHSs, etc. (i think about half of the 391 areas listed in List of areas in the United States National Park System). Articles for all of these were created, mostly by WP:PAREAS, but they need to be cleaned up and Protected areas mentions and Protected areas infoboxes should be removed from many of them that do not meet environmental protected areas definitions. This need seems to be accepted over at WP:PAREAS now, but there is no momentum, no one joining up to work on the task. It is isn't a fun task, over there, to correct previous work done. The task needs to be adopted over at WP:NRHP as a positive task of developing our most salient NRHPs. Perhaps a combined task force to develop our most salient NRHPs, including the NPS areas and the NHLs? Perhaps a collaboration on bringing one article at a time up to GA or FA? I am just plain amazed, looking at various articles in the Black Hawk War project, at how effective you and your collaborators have been at what the young Mr. Lincoln might have called "woolin' and pullin'" disparate data into a common format. An outsider like myself can see better, perhaps, how successful the project has been at getting individual battle, such as the Battle of Bad Axe, into chapters of the overall narrative. Sounds great, I am actually hunting up sources for stuff around me already. I'd love to have your help on some of the more difficult topics. I actually just created (yesterday) an article for a place on the register (the register stays on my watchlist and gives me ideas); Lamar Porter Field. I plan to work on Arkansas School for the Deaf, Arkansas School for the Blind, Central High School Historic District, and any other little local notables that don't yet have articles; at least as much as time allows me to go out and take pictures of them. I was just thinking of setting the goal of DYK for a couple of them. Do you have any ideas? If we make a habit of this, you might consider joining Wikiproject:Arkansas, although I don't think people are being very active with it--I'm trying to be. I already did the Capitol View/Stifft's Station article, which contains two historic districts and is just north of the neighborhood I am in, which is Capitol Hill, Little Rock, Arkansas (right between CV/SS and the Central High District. I've already gathered some sources for the article as it is high on my to-do list:

I plan to go photograph the deaf and blind school in the next day or two and talk to some people about getting additional sources for those articles. I also want to get information on Woodruff Elementary here in Little Rock. I started with the CV/SS article and decided that notable red links from that page should be eliminated by me and that I'd slowly just work my way out from my house doing national historic sites and other noteworthy locations in my home city and state. I also have the number and name of the Neighborhood Association President, one thing I should note is that I planed to approach the CHSHD article as a section (albeit probably the largest part) of the Central High Neighborhood article, which I plan to add to the Little Rock Neighborhoods template because right now it is not included. I just edited the last comment a bit, the laundry finished and I got sidetracked and what I said didn't even make sense! As for the combination of the neighborhood and district: as the article grows it can be separated with a "main article:" thing in the neighborhood page. My problem as of right now is gathering information on the neighborhood that is independent of the district. I will probably work on the deaf/blind schools first, plus I'll have to get around the neighborhood and shoot pictures of notable structures; that will take some time. I'll just take another extended break, in the meantime I will still ul photos to Commons, it's not so much him (I expected the response he gave to hide behind policy like true agenda driven editors always do around here) as it is the fact that no one else seemed to notice or care, that doesn't spell good things for the project. This editor made no qualms about his POV, has publicized his new articles at the NRHP project, and no one cares. That bothers me. Try and not sweat it, Ivo. I'm kind of a closet fan of WP:FUCK. Sure, too many people here are retards who's "contributions" actually harm the encyclopedia. (I do not lump Bedford in with these people, he just got caught pushing a POV which is quite unsettling, but I feel the body of his contributions is at least significant and adds to the encyclopedia. I still wish rather than start ignoring the situation that he would have acknowledged things, but my ideal outcome and what usually happens are almost always different. RfC is the next step, but hopefully things will mellow out.) I understand that tons of people on here don't deserve the civility that so many patient people try and give them--in fact, they really need to be told to fuck off and have their ass beat for being such an oxygen debt to the planet. However, of course we can't be that way to them.
Also, I don't think of you as "blow-your-top-and-take-a-break Ivo" or whatever. I read your RfA and oh eff double-u, you lost your cool once. Whoopie, you were even the one that brought it to their attention! I don't share the impression you seem to feel is held by many other wikipedians, to the contrary, I find you to be welcoming and helpful, and uniquely so. I know I'm too new around here to try and impart wisdom and be right in doing so, but things like that, historically, have never stopped me, so here goes: Fuck it. Hope you don't mind my attempt to straddle a fence or two: I commented at Bedford's talk page that i do value his contributions, as I do yours, and that i personally don't see a huge problem with usage of an informal name for the American Civil War sometimes. It does also seem to be unfair to have any really old stuff brought up and used against you, but I didn't observe that happening other than in Bedford's being defensive. I have not gone and looked up RFAs for anyone, and don't intend to. But also it seemed to me that the accumulation of comments on Bedford's page was amounting to an attack that would cause me to be a bit defensive, too. So I hope this is not such a big deal. Anyhow, I'd rather chat about other stuff. Do you have further thoughts about a task force? I am still thinking about that task force. I have always valued Bedford's contributions, what I don't value is obvious POV under the guise of adhering to policy. Informality has no place in professional writing, which is what this project is supposed to resemble, which is why that City of Angels thing was shot down. Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Do you have any good books and/or other reference materials about round barns? I have a couple on the National Register in Minnesota that I should start articles on. I just went out today and got pictures of some places in Anoka County, Minnesota, including the Sparre Barn in the little hamlet of Nowthen (part of Burns Township), but I don't have anything more than a one-sentence description of the barn in a book with a list of all Minnesota's NRHP properties. I also need to do an article on the Dammon Round Barn south of Red Wing, Minnesota, though there's a little more research material on that. It's now part of a bed & breakfast, and the current owners offer it as a site for a wedding ceremony or reception. (Presumably, they haven't had animals on there in a while.)

If you have any research material that could help out, I could get a start on the article(s) and have you add stuff. (Actually, I should probably just go ahead and create stubs for some of the many properties I've photographed but haven't written about.
