[edit] Wodeyar

This article is essentially an "uncited" repeat version (for most part) of Kingdom of Mysore. Since we are working on the Kingdom of Mysore for FA, the "Wodeyar" article needs to be reduced to a stub or short article describing what the name means etc.Dineshkannambadi 19:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Surely the Wodeyar chronology info can go as it is repeated in Mysore Kingdom .Info on growth of Kingdom, Tipu, Haider Ali dont belong there anyway. We can keep the lead paragarph, "curse of Wodeyar" etc and clean it up later.Dineshkannambadi 21:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps a detailed message (later on) to Rajachandra when we are ready to go for FA for Mysore Kingdom to help trim the Wodeyar page would do.Dineshkannambadi 22:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

Do not remove my posts from talk pages, why do you have a tag on the front of your page which says you practice good faith, that is false because you are a vandal. Accept tha facts that Shahrukh Khan is Muslim, and learn to live with that.--Khan1982 16:14, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Keynes

I am sure there is little chance of people thinking I am J M Keynes, the economist. He died before wikipedia came up, so I think I'll stick to the name until somebody gets confused. I did not know the policy with choosing IDs, but I am glad I did not choose a recently deceased person instead, so I'm still on safe ground. Thanks for the concern though, I appriciate it. --Keynes.john.maynard 19:49, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sarvajna Manauscipts.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sarvajna Manauscipts.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Do you have an image of the Bhadrawati Iron Works? If you do, please add it to Mysore Kingdom administration section. The current image in Bhadravati is not clear.Dineshkannambadi 19:12, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Absolutely. Put them in the Music section. you should add them to Musicians of Mysore Kingdom also (19th-20th century paragraph I think). Make sure the permissions are ok. What happened to the Sarvagnya manuscript image?Dineshkannambadi 19:22, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Yakshagana

Your edit summary said "Please discuss on the Talk page." I have discussed it to death on the talk page. I have provided references from Britannica, The Sangeet Natak Academy, and Shivarama Karanth himself. Please read Talk:India#Reliable_Sources_Not_YouTube_on_Yakshagana for an extensive set of references. Yakshagana is not considered a classical dance form. It is traditional theatre which has elements of dance and music in it, like Jatra of Bengal and Tamasa of Maharashtra. If you do not revert you edit, I will pursue this on WP:ANI, and if need be pursue arbitration. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 17:28, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks; of course

Hey thanks! Feel free to remove everything which is POV, but I repeat - POV. Please don't remove things which are very well referenced. I'm grateful to you for taking care. Much appreciated. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 20:15, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Could you please write a message to Blofeld? He's left Wikipedia because of the fights on Zinta's article. ShahidTalk2me 17:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, it's OK!!! I like it that way when it's neutral, and at the moment, I like you friend :). Do you think Blofeld comes back? I'm afraid! ShahidTalk2me 17:28, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Do you find the quote re her father unnecessary? "Father's death is a terrible experience for everybody" - that's the POV here. Angelina Jolie is not on good terms with her father, and her background section is full of quotes, describing that. It's really important to me Gnanapiti, and it's neutral Btw.
I'm ok with the removal of "Variety of diverse" - LOL. Regards, ShahidTalk2me 18:10, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Equilibrium

Hi Gnanapiti, Thanks for adding "pepper" in your edit summary "chicken alone was proved dubious, not pepper" accompanying your edit on the India page. Although I didn't completely agree with your edit summary (since both the archaeological and the genetic evidence for sugar and oranges is beset with the same uncertainties as those for chicken), I did agree that the case for "black pepper" is much stronger. So, I first simply reinstated "black pepper." But, later, realizing that "black peppper" and "chilli pepper" are more spices than foods, I changed the "foods" to "spices." The sentences on "Indian cuisine" in the culture section now read:

Indian cuisine is characterized by a wide variety of regional styles and sophisticated use of herbs and spices. The staple foods in the region are rice (especially in the south and the east) and wheat (predominantly in the north). Spices originally native to the Indian subcontinent that are now consumed world wide include black pepper; in contrast, hot chilli peppers, popular across India, were introduced there by the Portuguese.

I only realized this morning that they have a kind of symmetry: they start out with a general statement about the cuisine(s) and the spices, and then follow up with a sentence each (involving examples or vignettes) on the staple foods and spices. Thus, even in seeming antagonism, equilibrium can be reached if people make and acknowledge substantive points. So, thanks! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:50, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image

Hi Gnanapiti. I am curious to know why the image which I uploaded (Image:Dravidian(people).jpg) was deleted, and why it was considered as "Patent nonsense and gibberish, an unsalvageably incoherent page with no meaningful content" (G1 Category for Speedy Deletion). The image had been created as a collage from images which had already been uploaded on Wikipedia. It was also done to show some famous people who were Dravidian, and I think that I had covered most states, ethnicities and fields (such as cinema, politics, etc.) Daavir 01:20, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kannada literature

I'll shoot through a few more Kannada writers tomorrow if you like -his bibliography needs addressing -although it looks like the Times of India is a bit vague on his works. I often look at adding images for deceased people where a free image can't be located. This is partly why I was offended by the Bollywood blog thing where I spent weeks trying to get us a secure deal which I believed was valid to help WP India and wikipedia in general and see it trying to be deleted. I would rather not have had to confront anybodu. Best regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Nicely done. Perhaps you could expand and ref K. V. Akshara a little ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 23:02, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea how much online info there is on Kannada poetry, but it would be good to have series of articles on some of these writers works , poems and novels etc. I always think this encyclopedia looks more resourceful when some of the works of these people are documented ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 23:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes reliable sources is always a problem -we certainly can't write an encyclopedia based on junk. Perhaps there is a library in Bangalore or something (if you live in Karnataka) which has the books or scholarly extracts discussing them. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 23:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I am glad to be of service.

Dear Sir: I am glad to be of service. And please let me add that I also have no particular "axe to grind" against feminism, as I tried to make clear: the feminists surely have many valid points to make which merit careful consideration. Do we wish to bring back suttee? How many poor wives throughout history have been beaten by drunken husbands? The feminists are right: enough is enough! I merely wish to shield the English language, which is my mother, my sister, and my daughter, from verbal abuse by the well-intentioned but inerudite mobs of 20th Century opinion. I once had a French professor named Rosmarin from Montreal who was perfectly bilingual. He said: "I detest this term 'chairperson'." It's just not beautiful English. [edit] Poverty in India Image

Beggar in Bodhgaya
Beggar in Bodhgaya

There is a discussion going on regarding whether or not the following image should be a part of the Poverty in India page. Most Poverty in *Country* pages do not have any images, at most 1. User:Otolemur crassicaudatus has brought many images showing extreme poverty in India and has tried to mislead people into thinking this is the way a majority of poor Indians live. There is a vote in which your input would be appreciated. You can find this discussion here

I feel that the the Bodhgaya Beggar image does not represent poverty in India correctly because:

  • The beggar in Bodhgaya image does not accurately depict poor people in India because they do not look like this. This man is an exception. To say that this man represents all poor people in India is very wrong. A small minority of Indias poor are disabled. Most living under the poverty line work long hours fishing, farming or as construction workers. This picture shows a man whose legs have been broken. Unless a majority of India's or even a fraction of the poor have legs like this, the image is irrelevant and undue to the poverty in india page.
  • Poverty and Disability are not connected in any way. There are thousands of super rich people who are disabled.
  • There are 11 country articles on poverty
  • This user is being uncivil and unyielding. This user has tried to have my user page deleted because it said America is priceless!
  • This image is being used by User:Otolemur crassicaudatus to display his dislike of India and to mislead people into thinking that this is the plight of millions of poor Indians. This user has often added images showing extreme poverty to many India relating articles.[3] Even though this user knows that poverty is present in every country and that extreme poverty is not a fair representation of the Indian economy, this user has previously tried to add an image of children washing their clothes in a mud puddle to the economy section of the India page. This user has added this image to the poverty section of the Economy of India page, when a graph showing poverty would make more sense.
  • WP:Undue says:
We should not attempt to represent a dispute as if a view held by a small minority deserved as much attention as a majority view. Views that are held by a tiny minority should not be represented except in articles devoted to those views. To give undue weight to a significant-minority view, or to include a tiny-minority view, might be misleading as to the shape of the dispute.

This can be applied to this because a very tiny fraction of poor people in India are disabled. Most work very hard trying to make a living for themselves. This image is misleading. Nikkul (talk) 02:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Changes to Music of Karnataka

There is no evidence that Karnataka Sangeetha was formally renamed as Carnatic music by any respected music scholar. Please allow the valid changes to Music of Karnataka. Even it was done one should use the original name first. The intention of the edit is not to remove ‘Carnatic Music’ which is somehow in use by some. The purpose is to present accurate information.Naadapriya (talk) 08:35, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

I've re-inserted one of your edits, "South Indians are "Dravidians". Though, Republic of India, as a country does not distinguish races, this word has to be mentioned there, as "Dravidians", has it's own article (not just a stub). In that article, it's mentioned that Dravidians live in SI, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It could be thought that, it's used in a ethnic way rather than racistic way. Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mungaru Male.jpg. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
