Doni began playing football at Botafogo in 1999 and joined AS Roma, moving from Brazilian team Juventude, on August 31, 2005, which was the last day of the transfer window in the 05–06 season.
At first Doni found his way into first team action blocked by Italian U-21 international Gianluca Curci and was restricted to UEFA Cup games. However, after impressing in cup competition, he replaced Curci in goal for league games and it is now Curci who is forced to play solely in cup competitions.
In his second season with AS Roma, he revealed as one of the best goalkeepers of the Serie A.[1]
[edit] International career
Doni earned his first cap with the Brazilian national team against Turkey in Dortmund on June 5, 2007.
In the Copa America 2007, he was selected as Brazil's first choice keeper moments before their first match against Mexico, replacing Helton. He made splendid saves throughout the tournament, including two penalty saves in the shootout against Uruguay in the semifinals, to send Brazil to the final.[2] Brazil won the tournament with a 3-0 win over Argentina.
