Alessandro Faiolhe Amantino (IPA: [ɐlə'sɐ̃dru faˈjɔʎi ɐmɐ̃ˈʧinu]), best known as Mancini (mɐ̃ˈsinʲi) (born August 1, 1980 in Ipatinga, Brazil) is a professional football player, currently playing with A.S. Roma of the Italian Serie A. Mancini is an extremely versatile player, having played at right-back (only in the early part of his career), right midfielder/winger (his preferred position) and attacking midfielder.
[edit] Club career
His form for Clube Atlético Mineiro led to a transfer to Europe in 2002, as Mancini joined S.S.C. Venezia, by then in Serie B, failing to impress. The following season, however, he would move to A.S. Roma, where he quickly developed into a world-class winger capable of scoring and setting goals alike.
In the UEFA Champions League 2006-07 round-of-16 second leg, as Roma faced (eventually knocking out) Olympique Lyon, Mancini received a cross from the right side of the field, controlled it and did 7 stepovers to fake out Anthony Réveillère, and then shot powerfully into Grégory Coupet's goal. An international for Brazil since 1999, Mancini represented his nation at the 2004 Copa América.
