Mauro Esposito (born June 13, 1979 in Torre del Greco, Naples) is an Italian footballer for A.S. Roma of Serie A. He is an attacking midfielder who usually plays down the right wing.

[edit] Club career

Esposito made his professional debut in 1997–98 for Pescara Calcio of Serie B. In 1999, after an unsuccessful trial with Rangers FC, he joined Udinese Calcio, debuting in the Italian top division. However, he did not have much playing time with Udinese, as he played just nine matches in two seasons. He joined Cagliari Calcio in 2001–02, and was one the small Sardinian team's most influential players, in both Serie A and B.

On July 4, 2007, AS Roma acquired 50% of Esposito from Cagliari for 2 million euros plus the loan of Daniele Magliocchetti.[1][2]

[edit] International career

Esposito made his debut in the Italian main squad on October 9, 2004, in a 2006 World Cup qualification match against Slovenia. He would be later called up by national coach Marcello Lippi for the pre-World Cup stage held on May 2 and 3 in 2006, but did not make the final cut.

Esposito was called up by new coach Roberto Donadoni for a friendly against Croatia on August 16, 2006, starting in the 0-2 home defeat.
