[edit] History

When CIBK made its debut in 2002, they thought they would become the city's first R&B/hip hop outlet, but they were beaten to the punch by CKIS. This would spark a format war in Calgary. By 2003, CKIS would bail out for the Jack FM format, leaving CIBK as the victor.

However CIBK would also go through an evolution of its own as they transitioned to a mainstream top 40 direction by 2004. Although The Vibe still plays R&B/hip hop product (but not as much), they also incorporate pop and dance into the mix, in part due to its license with the CRTC that now requires the station to be programmed as a CHR outlet. Because Vibe was anticipated for years prior to its launch to be Calgary's long awaited urban station, it had faced much criticism for bailing out to a Top 40 format leaving many of the station's hip-hop/R&B fans disappointed and let down by Standard Broadcasting.

CIBK was part of the acquisition of most of the assets of Standard Broadcasting by Astral Media that was completed on October 29th, 2007.

[edit] Vibe Morning Show

The Vibe Morning Show runs on weekday mornings until 9 AM. It is hosted by Chad Martin[1], Dani Rohs[2], and "Fuzzy"[3].

Kelsey Moore [4] was a former co-host, who left in late March 2007.

The morning show runs several contests where listeners phone in to participate and win prizes. It also runs several segments such as "Celebrity Sleaze" and "TV Talk".

Among the many parodies the Vibe Morning Show offers, they have parodied In da Club to create the more popular "In da Dome" in 2004 (and revised for 2006 and 2007) when the Calgary Flames were in their Stanley Cup runs. They have also parodied SexyBack for the Flames' Stanley Cup run in 2007 and Low in 2008.

[edit] Survey Says

Survey Says is one of the phone-in contests held by the Vibe Morning Show, and is related to the game show Family Feud. A question would be:

Question: 40% of VIBE listeners say they're planning on doing this when it comes to Christmas shopping this year:

Answer: Online shopping

People who think they know what the correct answer is call in to the station and tell the hosts their answer. If they get it right, they may win a prize such as Calgary Flames tickets or a spa certificate. However, they only have one chance to get it right before the hosts move on to another participant.
