Bellarmine Preparatory School is a Roman Catholic high school in the Jesuit tradition in Tacoma, Washington. Located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, the school was founded in 1928 as an all boys school, and became coeducational in 1974 with its merger with Aquinas and St. Leo's schools. Today it serves just over 1,000 students from the Greater Tacoma area. Also, it is situated on the highest elevation in the City of Tacoma.
Bellarmine Prep students strive to live up to the expectations set forth by the school's Graduate at Graduation (Grad at Grad) Document. The Grad at Grad Document challenges all students to be: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, Loving, and Committed to Doing Justice.
Bellarmine Prep is regarded as one of the most athletically competitive schools in the state of Washington, with over 70% of the student population competing in at least one athletic activity. It has been named All-Sports Champions by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association the past three years, winning it for the first time in school history in 2004 with the second highest All-Sports score ever recorded in state history, and the highest score for 2A, 3A, or 4A school. A key to this success has been the recent success of the Bellarmine men's soccer program. In 2004, the men's soccer team won it's first state title in school history with an undefeated record of 20-0-2. One of the major points in the season was their quarterfinal victory over Inglemoor High School, who was previously ranked 6th in the nation. They won the game 3-1 with goals from Brennan Brown, Adam West, and Scott Blanchet. They were in turn recognized as the #1 high school men's soccer team in the nation for 2004. The most influential players in this unbelievable run were forwards Adam West and Brennan Brown, midfielders John Power and Scott Blanchet. But the huge part of the Lion's success was their defense with two 6'3 center backs Brett Gallenger and Mike Baker. Lion Keeper Ian Cull had a very impressive year as well.
