Todd Beamer High School opens its facilities to the Federal Way Police Department for the annual law enforcement exploring competition hosted by FWDPS. The competition is hosted outside of school hours and utilizes multiple classrooms, the gymnasium and the football field and track.

[edit] Gun Scare

TBHS made national news as a student brought three loaded handguns to school on April 19th, 2007. The school was put into a lockdown for an hour, and the gunman was found without ever firing a shot. He was said to be selling the guns later that day on campus [2]

[edit] PETA Incident

After a TBHS student followed up a campaign promise by swallowing a live goldfish, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)approached the school. PETA felt that "people who harm small animals, often go on to harm larger animals or even people." The incident made statewide news, and eventually onto national news. Radio talk shows such as Howard Stern and many others everywhere discussed the issue as to how "blown-out-of-proportion it was." School staff had claimed to know nothing about the incident, though it had been announced during the student's speech at an assembly in front of some 300 plus students and dozens of staff. Many had claimed that it was "just as unethical as eating sushi, or fishing". This led to laws throughout school systems about mistreatment of animals.[citation needed]
