He was selected in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Howard University. [edit] Pro career
In his rookie year, Bethea had 105 tackles and 1 interception. His interception came against the New England Patriots during the regular season. In the Divisional playoffs against the Baltimore Ravens, he made a key interception at the Colt's 1-yard line, keeping the Ravens from scoring. The sixth-rounder finished the season third on the team with 90 tackles at the safety position. His play during the 2006 season was impressive enough that Indianapolis allowed former starter Mike Doss to enter into free agency, while moving Bethea to the starter position for the 2007 season. He is represented by Adisa Bakari (NFL Agent), and Robert London II (Marketing Agent). Bethea was named to the 2008 Pro Bowl to replace an injuried Troy Polamalu.
