1963 Masters Tournament

The 1963 Masters Tournament was contested from April 4 to April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club. It was the 27th Masters Tournament. 84 players entered the tournament and 50 of them made the cut at eight-over-par (152).

Jack Nicklaus won his first Green Jacket defeating Tony Lema by one stroke. Nicklaus shot a 66 in the second round which was key in his victory. This would be Nicklaus' first of six Masters victories.

This was the last Masters tournament that Horton Smith played in. He won the Masters two times including the first tournament. He shot a 91 and a 86 and was cut. He died of Hodgkin's Disease six months later.

Gene Sarazen finished in 49th place, this would be the last time that the 1935 Masters champion would make the cut at Augusta.

George Bayer won the Par 3 contest with a score of 23.
