[edit] Season summary
The Vanwall challenge became a reality in 1957, although Connaught was forced to withdraw for lack of funds and BRM remained unreliable. Fangio took his fifth, and final, championship, but the Vanwalls took three races. Fangio's drive at the Nürburgring, where he overtook Collins and Hawthorn on the penultimate lap after a pit stop had put him nearly a minute behind, was a classic. Points were no longer awarded for shared drives.
