"You Don't Know" is the first single of Eminem's compilation album Eminem Presents the Re-Up. It features 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and new Shady Records artists, Cashis. The single shows the relation between G-Unit and D12.
[edit] Music Video
The video appeared on MTV's Sucker Free, and BET's 106 & Park as a "New Joint", on November 7, 2006. The video reached number 1 on MTV's Total Request Live. Tony Yayo, Young Buck, D12, Bobby Creekwater, Obie Trice, Mobb Deep & Stat Quo all have cameo appearances.
The video is prison themed with each of the four featured artists portraying highly dangerous criminals. All four are wearing prison outfits and are significantly covered in chains and cuffs, and all four are transported in separate vehicles to a heavily guarded arena. 50 cent is transported in maximum security prison plane. Cashis in a train , Lloyd banks in a helicopter and Eminem is transported in a heavy security transfer truck. The video seems to reference movies such as The Silence of the Lambs with Eminem being restrained in a similar trolley and muzzle to that of Hannibal Lecter's. Eminem also imitates Hannibal Lecter's trademark lip-licking motion to Jodie Foster when, in the beginning of the video, Eminem is visited at his cell by a female FBI Agent who looks similar to Foster's character in The Silence of the Lambs.
[edit] Chart positions
You Don't Know was released in the UK on 11 December 2006 and the single contained a free sticker. Due to the sticker being contained with the single, it was not able to chart in the UK. This was due to UK chart rules stating that singles may not qualify for the charts if the release contains a sticker. This meant that You Don't Know was the second Eminem single in a row not able to chart there. However, in 2007, chart rules changed once again and therefore "You Don't Know" was able to chart, although it became Eminem's lowest charting single to date.
You Don't Know peaked at #1 song on hip-hop/rap section, and #6 on all songs on the iTunes Store. It debuted at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the highest debut for a single on this chart for each Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and Cashis; (this being Cashis' debut on the Billboard Hot 100)
The song is featured in the latest WWE film The Condemned.
[edit] UK Chart Disqualification
Upon its original release, "You Don't Know" had achieved sufficient sales to give it UK Top Ten status, however a promotional sticker accompanied with the single made it chart ineligible due to the Official UK Charts Company rules, which state that singles including any promotional stickers are not eligible for the charts. In 2007, new chart rules allowed the entry of "You Don't Know" on downloads alone although the sales were relatively low since this was several weeks after its release, thus peaking at #32 to become Eminem's lowest UK Chart hit to date and his only single in the UK not to peak inside the Top Ten.
