Role Model (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Role Model" is a rap song by Eminem on the album The Slim Shady LP. The song also appears on Curtain Call: The Hits bonus disc Stan's Mixtape. This song is Eminem mocking his position as a role model with lines like "I slap women and eat shrooms and O.D." and "I tie a rope around my penis and jump from a tree" and repeating the line "don't you wanna grow up to be just like me" with more intensity in the last verse ending the song with "you probably wanna grow up to be just like me". Interestingly enough, the song was not an official single, but a video was still made along with a heavily censored radio edit. The song also contains a shot at horrorcore rapper Cage with the line "I bought Cage's tape, opened it and dubbed over it".

[edit] Music video

The video is a darker comedic offering than "My Name Is". It starts with someone introducing Eminem who is about to do a Houdini-like escape trick in a silent movie style, after that there are scenes of Eminem as a priest (who sits awkwardly with a young churchgoer in a bedroom and then with a prostitute), a police officer arresting someone for possession, a Norman Bates-like man and a cartoon superhero-type character beating up Foghorn Leghorn. At the end of the video, the escape trick fails and Eminem's character apparently drowns.

The video edit is edited differently than on the edited version of The Slim Shady LP. The edited version on The Slim Shady LP just backmasks, while the video edit changes the Lyrics.
