[edit] The event

The World Snooker Championship was revived after a six year absence in 1964 in which 1957 World Champion John Pulman played challenge matches against various opponents for the next four years.

In 1965, Rex Williams made a break of 142 during his match with John Pulman. A new record which would last until 1979 when Bill Werbeniuk equalled his break.
