WMAK, channel 7, is a digital television station serving the Knoxville, Tennessee area. WMAK signed on July 31, 2004, making it one of the few stations in the US to sign on exclusively as a digital station, with no full-powered analog counterpart. WMAK also has two low-powered, Class-A analog repeaters in the Knoxville area: WEZK-LP, channel 28, in Knoxville, and WJZC-LP, channel 22, in Sevierville.

WMAK is owned by Knoxville Channel 7, LLC, a division of South Central Communications (which also owns radio stations in Knoxville, and formerly owned the neighboring WVLT-TV (Channel 8)).

As an independent television station, WMAK airs syndicated programs like Sex and the City, Extra, The People's Court, Judge Mathis and I Love Lucy as well as recent and classic motion pictures.

[edit] Broadcasting

WMAK's transmission tower is located on Sharps Ridge slightly north of downtown Knoxville, and the broadcast signal covers all of the East Tennessee viewing area.

WMAK is the only television station in Knoxville capable of originating local high-definition content.

Currently, the station broadcasts:

  • high-definition (16x9 widescreen) output on Channel 7-1
  • standard-definition (4x3) output on Channel 7-2
