Windows Live SkyDrive (previously Windows Live Folders) is part of Microsoft's Windows Live range of services. SkyDrive allow users to upload their files to the computing cloud, and then access them from a web browser. The SkyDrive service utilizes Windows Live ID to limit access to the files the user has uploaded, allowing them to keep the files private, share with contacts, or make the files public. Publicly-shared files do not require a Windows Live ID to access.
The service currently offers 5GB, with a maximum upload file size of 50MB. Optionally, an ActiveX tool can be installed to allow drag-and-drop uploading from Windows Explorer. Up to five files can be uploaded each time if that ActiveX tool has not been installed.

On its launch, Windows Live Folders (as it was then) was provided as a limited managed beta and available only to a few testers in the United States.[1] On August 1, 2007, the service was expanded to a wider audience. Shortly after on August 9, 2007 Windows Live Folders was renamed Windows Live SkyDrive and the participation was expanded to testers in the United Kingdom and India.[2] As of May 22, 2008, Windows Live SkyDrive is available to 62 countries and regions.[3][4]

[edit] RSS Feeds
RSS feeds allow users to be easily notified of updates to content that friends have placed in their public folders. Users can subscribe to the RSS feed by navigating to a public folder in Windows Live SkyDrive and clicking on the RSS Feed icon in the upper right corner. The RSS feed contains a preview image of the added files - either a thumbnail of an image or the file type icon - and links to the associated download page for that file on Windows Live SkyDrive.
[edit] Windows Live Spaces integration
Windows Live SkyDrive provides integration with Windows Live Spaces to allow users to add a module to their Spaces displaying their publicly shared folders. Windows Live SkyDrive also display navigation links to different parts of Windows Live Spaces, including Windows Live Events.
In the future, Windows Live Spaces will also display an RSS feed on the user homepage detailing any updates to a friend's Windows Live SkyDrive public folders.
