• I was thinking that we should make an article for omoplatas and gogoplatas, especially since it's been proven recently that it can be used in MMA competitions. NasDestiny 16:11, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I feel that we should add fighter associations/teams to each fighter's statbox such as Chute Boxe, Hammerhouse, or Greg Jackson's Gaidojitsu camp. Unak78 22:20, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
  • King of the Cage should be brought in and formalized. I'm working on a List of King of the Cage events page right now. Information is spotty on this, Sherdog doesn't seem to have complete information for the events that have been distributed on the KOTC DVDs (it's possible some are copromotions). As a result, I consider it WIP. I did tag the discussion pages with the project banner. Falcomadol 16:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Created stat table for MMA teams/associations and added it to all existing team pages with logos where available. Work is still ongoing, would also like to work on finding info on some of the hard to find international teams like Red Devil Sport Club and Russian Top Team. Unak78 19:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Researched and expanded Chute Boxe article with four paragraphs and additional sources. Unak78 11:57, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Expanded Brazilian Top Team article with additional paragraphs and sources, and reorganized the layout. Unak78 14:05, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
  • I mainly work on monitoring article tone and expanding/contracting significant fight descrips. Above all else, my contribs will always be totally neutral.DiScOrD tHe LuNaTiC (talk) 05:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Project Templates

In addition to the already-mentioned MMAstatsbox and Championshiptitle template group, the following templates are suggested for use on MMA articles:

[edit] Biographical stubs (e.g. fighters, promoters, referees)

Please use mixedmartialart-bio-stub instead of stub, as this will create an appropriate categorisation and banner that will direct editors to this project.

   This biographical article related to mixed martial arts is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it.

[edit] Non-biographical stubs (e.g. fight promotions, events)

Please use mixedmartialart-stub instead of stub, as this will create an appropriate categorisation and banner that will direct editors to this project.

   This article related to mixed martial arts is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it

[edit] Banner for use on article talk pages

Please add WikiProject Mixed martial arts to the top of talk pages of MMA articles, to help direct new editors to the project. Using underneath that on talk pages will create an editable to do list as we have at the top of this page, which you can leave notes for yourself or other editors in.

[edit] Notability of fighters

To determine whether a fighter is notable enough to be deserving of their own Wikipedia article, please see the following guideline pages:-

  • Wikipedia:Notability (people)#People still alive - To quote from the entry for sportspeople/athletes: "Sportspeople/athletes who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, or at the highest level in mainly amateur sports, including college sports in the United States." At face value, this would appear to include most professional mixed martial artists, but in practice should probably include those who have had at least one, and preferably several fights in an established professional fight promotion (e.g. not a startup promotion).
  • Wikipedia:Google Test should also prove to be a practical test of notability.

[edit] Article structure

The articles about mixed martial arts fighters should follow the structure outlined below to ensure a consistent structure. An easy way to start a new article is to copy the source of the quickbio template.

{name}
Statistics
Height {height}
Weight {weight}
Born {birthdate}
Town of birth {hometown}
Mixed martial arts record
Wins {wins}
Losses {losses}

[edit] MMAstatsbox

All articles should begin with an MMA statbox (see sample to the right).

Syntax:

Values for image, nick, died, fightingfrom, fightteam, fightstyle, nocontest, ko and submissions are optional.

[edit] Lead section

Lead section should include the basic information about the fighter and an overview of notable accomplishments. A standard lead section begins with:

Joe "Diesel" Riggs (September 23, 1982 - ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter. He currently fights as a welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Source:

Joe "Diesel" Riggs (September 23, 1982 - ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter. He currently fights as a welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

[edit] Biography

Biography section should begin with a == Biography == title, and outline the fighters life outside of MMA. Inlude the details of the fighters childhood: place of birth, sibling information, parents occupation, etc. Further details can include the information on the fighters other careers, his marriage(s), children, pets, etc.

For example:

Fedor Emelianenko was born in 1976 in the Rubezhnoe town in Luhansk region, presently a part of Ukraine (part of the Soviet Union at the time). Fedor's family moved to Stary Oskol, Russia in 1978. His mother, Olga Feodorovna, is a teacher. His father, Vladimir Alexandrovich, is a gas-electric welder. Fedor is the second child in the family and has an older sister, Marina, and two younger brothers, Aleksander (born 1981) and Ivan (born 1988). Aleksander is also an MMA fighter in PRIDE, and Ivan is currently in training.
Fedor finished high school in 1991 and graduated with honors from a professional trade school in 1994. In 1999 he married his wife, Oksana. Fedor's daughter, Masha, was also born in 1999.

[edit] Martial arts training

The Biography section can also include a subsection on the fighter's martial arts background & training regimen.

Example:

Emelianenko's enthusiasm for fighting began with Sambo and Judo. He initially trained under Vasiliy Ivanovich Gavrilov, and later under his current coach, Vladimir Mihailovich Voronov. Voronov remembers that ten-year-old Fedor was relatively weak physically and did not have an innate grappling talent; instead, Fedor's biggest strength was his perseverance and strong will.
In 1997, Emelianenko received the official certification of a "Master of Sports" in Sambo and Judo. Fedor earned bronze medal in 1998 Russian Judo Championsip. In 2000, he started studying striking with arms and legs under coach Alexander Vasilievich Michkov.
Fedor used to weight train extensively, but in 1999 he almost completely substituted his weight exercises with sport-specific training in grappling, boxing and kick-boxing. His strength training consists of daily pull-ups, push ups on parallel bars, and crunches. Emelianenko also runs 12-15 kilometers (7.5 - 9.3 miles) every day. Fedor is a proponent of high altitude training, and he travels to Kislovodsk, Russia with his team once or twice a year to train in high altitude.

[edit] Mixed martial arts career

  1. Write down his/her early career.
  2. Write down recent events.

[edit] Record

His/her fight records. It does not have to be about only MMA record. If they have taken part in any BJJ, wrestling or kickboxing etc matches, you can create a section for each discipline and add that information.

[edit] Mixed martial arts

A typical subsection would include a list of any titles won, followed by the record table.

  • Professional mixed martial arts: xx Fights xx Wins xx KOs xx S xx Loses (xx Draws xx No cntests)
    • "KOs" includes TKO. "S" means submissions.
    • "Draw" and "No contests" are optional. You do not have to put them if they are unnecessary.
  • Record table:
  • Input:

fightstatstop

fightstatsbottom

    • Output:
Number Date Result Round Method Opponent Nationality Note
19 October 30, 2004 Win 8R 2:58 TKO Vitor Belfort Brazil UFC Light heavyweight championship

[edit] See also

The "See also" section should include at least a reference to theList of male mixed martial artists or List of female mixed martial artists.

[edit] References

The article should be thoroughly referenced. The list of references can be automatically included in the References section by including a footnotes tag.

[edit] External links

Also, please include the MMA-bio-stub on the stub pages.

[edit] Categories

Please add categories as appropriate — there are generally categories for the sports and martial arts that fighters may have practiced, and please always select the correct nationality from Category:Mixed martial artists by nationality.

*adding a link to a category adds the article to the category - this page does not belong in that category!

Other categories to be included are:

  •
  •
  •
