With Mixed Martial Arts still being so new a sport and even fewer women pursuing this highly athletic contest, the ones who are have found it difficult getting a foot in the MMA federations. Women fighters are some of the lower paid competitors to this sport due to the possible backlash of women "duking it out" in a ring or octagon.[citation needed]

To this day, female MMA fighters are still not allowed to compete in the leading fighting federations, such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
