WHRV

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WHRV is the flagship National Public Radio member station for the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Licensed to Norfolk, Virginia; it broadcasts on the FM dial at 89.5 mHz. It is owned by the Hampton Roads Educational Telecommunications Association along with WHRO-TV and WHRO-FM. Its programming consists of jazz, adult album alternative music and NPR news and talk.

The station began in the late 1960s as WTGM. HRETA bought the then-financially troubled station in 1974 and changed the calls to WHRO-FM in 1978. In 1990, HRETA moved the WHRO-FM calls and all classical music programming to 90.3 FM. NPR news, jazz and alternative music stayed on 89.5 FM, which was renamed WHRV.
