The University of the Arts London is a collegiate university and Europe's largest centre for education in art, design, fashion, communication and the performing arts.[2] It also owns the Cochrane Theatre in Holborn.
It was previously called The London Institute, but changed its name upon being granted university status in 2004.
The site at Davies Street, next to Bond Street, is used for administrative purposes, learning resources, support services and a students' union bar and café.

The Student Union publishes Less Common, a magazine that serves to showcase student's work from all six colleges. The University also publishes Arts London News, a weekly newspaper distributed throughout two terms of the year, which is produced and maintained by journalism students. The paper is published in conjunction with Rupert Murdoch's News International.

[edit] Popularity
Due to the university's success and impressive alumni, the university has become increasingly popular among prospective students, especially for a specialist institute in the arts. All the colleges exceed in applications and the university does follow a critical and decisive procedure when selecting new students. This is more noted for courses within design and fashion more so than any other. Students would expect to get a portfolio review which would usually then lead to an interview being given before the decision is made to accept that student on the course. Each course does have its own guidelines in determine new students.
In 2008, due to the change in the UCAS application system where students could only choose a maximum of five institutes rather than six, were there was a drop in the average applications for universities because students had to think about their choices, University of the Arts London had an increase in theirs. London College of Communication had recorded a high 7% increase in applications.
[edit] International students
The university is the most popular institute in the country for international students on courses in the creative arts and is one of highest institutes in the country for an international student population. Students from over 100 countries come to study at the university.
The University of the Arts London is also one of the most famous arts institutes recognised to those outside the country.
[edit] Halls of residence
Unfortunately the university does not guarantee accommodation to all first year students and the halls are very popular and there are students that do not get places even though halls are situated across London. The prices range between £100 GBP to £ 190 GBP and students would be required to apply early.
