University College of Skövde

The University College of Skövde or Högskolan i Skövde (HS) is a university college in Skövde, Sweden. It has approximately 8300 students. Lecturers and other educational staff around 340, for administration approx. 100 persons (march 2007). The university of applied sciences is structured in three branches (since 2004)[1]:
- Institutionen för Kommunikation och Information (informatics, languages, humanities, pedagogy and computer related pedagogy)
- Institutionen för Teknik och Samhälle (mechanical engineering, economics, social sciences, management studies)
- Institutionen för Vård och Natur (health services, natural science)
Also two additional departments, for Austro and Mexico studies could be found.
HS was established in 1977, the official 1983[2]. It was originated in former barracks of the Swedish army, which were modernised and modified for the needs of the university. The bigger part of the university is located in modern buildings. The campus is located alongside the Göteborgs-Stokholm railway, near the center of Skövde.
In addition to the core buildings, there are two university related buildings, to be mentioned. Gothia Science Park[3] is an incubator for start-ups and considered to be an interface for science and local business. The Boulogner[4] student union house for recreation.
