Blekinge Institute of Technology

The Blekinge Institute of Technology or Blekinge tekniska högskola (BTH) is a small university with campuses located in Karlskrona, Ronneby, and Karlshamn, Sweden. In 2010 the majority of all activities will be centered in Karlskrona with the remaining centered in Karlshamn.
The university offers programs not only within Technology but also Management, Economy, Health, Planning, Social Science and Humanities. In 2007 the Blekinge Institute of Technology had approximately 7,000 students and offered 470 courses in 40 educational programmes. About half of these students conduct their studies remotely.
In 2003, Blekinge Institute of Technology began to offer a Master's program in Strategic Leadership toward Sustainability, drawing from the science-and system-based sustainability framework called The Natural Step. Blekinge Institute of Technology also offers a Swedish bachelor programme and an International masters programme in information security together with a number of publicly available security courses. Other masters programmes offered include business administration (MBA), telecommunications, mechanical engineering with emphasis on structural mechanics, security engineering, software engineering, ubiquitous computing, etc.
Blekinge Institute of Technology is surrounded by many telecommunications and software companies like Vodafone (now Telenor), Ericsson AB, Wireless Independent Provider (WIP), UIQ Technology (developer of the Symbian OS based platform UIQ), etc. The school focuses on Applied IT and sustainable development of industry and society.
