Belfast City Hall Photo
Please remove my photograph of Belfast City hall that you copied from irish-architecture.com
- Hi Paul, yes I'll remove that if you want. I realise the copyright information wasn't properly detailed and apologise for that. As Wikipedia is a non profit organisation would you consider letting the image stay if the copyright information is displayed prominantly? Like this:
- Also, on the image's description page it states: "This image is being used for identification of a public building that is the subject of an article written for informational purposes. It is believed that the use of the image on Wikipedia does not undermine the potential market for the sale or licensing of this image."
- However, if you would rather not it's fine. Cheers. Stu ’Bout ye! 15:41, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
New Irish Flag
Hey Stu! I notice you have a cool thing stating you support a new flag for N.I. How can I do something similar for the Republic (terrible colour scheme, they clash, etc ...). Cheers, and delighted to see another one of us on Wiki! Fergananim 13:39, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Dates?
Hey Stu. I was wondering about your wikification of the article on Young Citizen Volunteers. You've changed the date formats throughout to a distinctly American style, when it had been in conventional British style previously. The sentence in Belfast City Hall on the 10 September 1912 is now grammatically incorrect, though I'm sure that was an oversight when you made the edits.
Shouldn't we keep the British version of the date format with British, or Western European based articles..? --Mal 20:00, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Mal, I tend to leave the "th" out of dates. Is this specifically American formatting? I just think it looks better! Stu ’Bout ye! 07:59, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Obel Tower.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Obel Tower.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Fair use rationale for Image:Colin MacIntyre with Giant Dog.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Colin MacIntyre with Giant Dog.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Re : Sydney Roosters
If it's not included with the original one, it is best to send itfor AfD, just to be safe. - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 12:59, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Stu ’Bout ye! 13:04, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that the others had not been deleted, I didn't create it in ignorance of the others, it was always planned to be ongoing.
Also I wish I was notified about the deletion. Interesting enough is that Sydney Roosters 1911 Season has so far shown in favour of keeping it because of the additions I had made.
I explained this earlier on that there were more additions coming but that was ignored, yet here we see where the additions are in place and people are in favour of keeping it. Every season would be uniformed in structure, so if it justified that the seasons article can be kept, why were the others deleted without considering the updating I had done.
If the 1911 Season debate results in the keeping of the article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Sydney_Roosters_1911_Season
then it should be only fair that the others are re-instated as they are identical in structure.
Is it possible for the articles to be re-installed as it was a time consuming process creating each page.
I'm disappointed that the article was deleted on the basis of its original structure, and not on the additions that had been put on, which show with the 1911 season a clear favour in keeping it.Sbryce858 02:07, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I would like to protest the deletion based on the argument brought forward by Athenaeum in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Sydney_Roosters_1911_Season
Is there an avenue in which I can do that.

Hi thanks for your message. another user has asked me to use Ni stubs and they are categorised under Uk and ireland. i didn't honesty see why it made a difference but i kind of do now. Feel free to change stuff - i was really only bantering with you earlier. I try to make sure evrything i write in wikipedia is accurate and sourced (sorry if its too much pasting). User Belfast
Hi Stu - just noticed you've moved your userpage. Easy to do..?
Anyway, I think it was you that I nicked the Belfast userbox from, and I don't know if I'd said to you about it or not. I see you're using the template now, and I hope you didn't mind that I unashamedly stole it from you and created the template! Was thinking of crediting you for it on its discussion page. --Mal 08:03, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Mal. Not too hard to change it no. Finding a username that isn't already taken is the hard part! You can do it at Wikipedia:Changing username. And no problem about the template, no need for credit! Stu ’Bout ye! 08:06, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Red Branch Knights
See you've been editing the RBK article. Not criticising just wondering how you edited it.So yeah how did you edit it?Dermo69
- Hi Diarmuid. I'm not sure what you mean? Do you mean what did I do to the article? Basically, I tidied it up a wee bit. I removed a lot of over-linking - removing links to words like king, descendants, warriors, bank and economic. Articles shouldn't be overlinked - only relevant pages should be linked to. I also added a category and removed the "At their peak they probably had about 10 members at most and are considered defunct" sentence. I might be wrong, but this is really just speculation. Stu ’Bout ye! 07:51, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Why did you remove what i wrote? It's correctDermo69
- I tried to find a source for this Diarmuid, but couldn't find anything on Google. Where did you read it? Articles have to be verifiable, and from reliable sources. Stu ’Bout ye! 14:09, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Ok.As you know from Google the majority of searches are related to the ancient red branch knights so im adding some stuff about them. You agree?Dermo69
Ireland, the island
Well technically places in Northern Ireland are in Ireland (the island). not much difference really. six of one and half a dozen of another! You wrote on my page "please don't state that areas in Northern Ireland are in Ireland. This is misleading.". Well its true and therefore not misleading. Northern Ireland is an integral part of the United Kingdom and also on the island of Ireland. Two facts nobody disputes!!- certainly not a neutral type like myself. Without regard to Northern ireland/ireland i just write whatever comes into my head at the time i'm writing it and i'll continue to do it so please don't post about it again!! i don't have any ulterior motives for writing what i do....i just write it!!!!! However feel free to change my ireland/northern irelands....chances are i just wrote whatever came into my head and won't notice any change! The 'Republic of Ireland' does not and should not have a monopoly over the word 'ireland'. Wikinorthernireland 17:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for your message. The established style in Wikipedia is to state the town or city's location by the county it is located in, not the island or general area. English town articles don't state that they are in Britain, and American town articles don't state that they are in North America. So it isn't really appropriate to write whatever comes into your head at the time. You'll notice that other people are changing articles you are writing along the same lines that I am. You would be saving other people's time by sticking with the norm. Stu ’Bout ye! 08:19, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Orphaned fair use image (Image:24 Hour Party People.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:24 Hour Party People.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Unspecified source for Image:Baresi.jpg
| This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Baresi.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Note that any unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Muchness 18:31, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Lenny Murphy
Please keep an eye out on the Murphy page? There is very non-encyclopaedic and POV language being used for political reasons. I understand he evokes a lot of hatred and resentment, but POV is POV, except for some for whom it is only POV when you don't agree. I am only asking because I am very busy at work and cannot monitor as I would like to do.
Thanks!! ArgyllRover 12:22, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! Surprisingly, I've never even read the Murphy page. Probably one of the few NI articles I haven't. There are some minor POV corrections to be made. Plus a few links need to be fixed and references added. I'll try and do that today. Stu ’Bout ye! 13:07, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Userboxes
Sorry, I didn't notice I was editing a vandalised version.
Are you sure you want to leave your userboxes as is? You really don't need an HTML table, which is why I edited it.
{{userboxtop}} before the userboxes and {{userboxbottom}} after them will produce a vertical table in the same way as your table code would do it. Wikicode can produce tables much easier than HTML can.
I also warned the vandal. — Nathan (talk) / 17:00, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Nathan, I've used userboxtop and userboxbottom now, it's just that the way you did it before the userboxes spread across the page. Cheers! Stu ’Bout ye! 08:01, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Northern Ireland edit war
Hi Stu. I've recently been banned (12 hours) for violating 3RR with regard to the Northern Ireland article.
Background
It had been decided in the article Constituent country that Northern Ireland was indeed one of the four constituent countries of the UK, and citations were included in the article and on the discussion page.
From that decision, it was logical to include this information on the Northern Ireland article itself. To that end, I edited the article to change the wording (which had, at that point, been changed to "constituent entities"). The Northern Ireland article was reverted several times, and on the talk page it had been suggested that citations were needed. Initially I pointed to the citations on the Constituent country article, and suggested some of the citations there were included in the NI article if it was thought really necessary.
Eventually, I added the citations myself - seven of them, expecting the most relevant ones to be kept and the others pruned. Apparently however, this was still not good enough for some editors who had been reverting the article.
Currently
As it stands at the time of writing this, I have reverted the article with the citations included. I fully expect this to be reverted again, as soon as certain editors get wind of it.
The article, when reverted to the "constituent entities" version has a large (what I would consider POV) footnote attached, explaining how nationalists reject any notion that Northern Ireland is a constituent country. How the term "constituent entity" is any better for nationalists is beyond me, save for the ommission of the word "country". It had been established on the Constituent country page that Northern Ireland is a country (within a country).
The phrase (which I have never heard of before) "constituent entity" is wikilinked to the Home nations article - which itself describes, in the introduction, how the home nations are "the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland".
Conspiracy
I have been accused of "launching racist abuse", making "snide attacks against Irish people" and "POV-pushing" on another article's talk page[[1]] by one editor involved in the dispute, who has also suggested I have been "up to his old antics" to a new editor (and generally sullying my name), and has been 'recruited' by another editor on his talk page.
I would appreciate your guidance and help on this matter, as I merely want to be factual as per usual for this Encyclopedia, if you have the time to spare.
Thanks for listening in any case. --Mal 14:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Mal. Yes, I've been watching the developments on this. As for the issue being discussed, Northern Ireland's status, I don't really know enough to become involved in the debate. To me the status isn't easy to define either way. I guess describing it one way could be construed as unionist POV pushing, the other as nationalist POV pushing. What I do agree with is that some of the allegations made against you are unfortunate, especially from JT as he is an admin. I also don't see any clear consensus on the NI talk page to suggest that it shouldn't be described as a constituent country, so your 3RR block was probably unfair. Or at least the others involved should have been blocked too. Stu ’Bout ye! 14:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
If anyone thinks that someone has fallen fowl of WP:3RR then the exceptions are very clear on what would be considered as an exception. Incidentially I have not "recruited" anyone, people can choose what "side" to take - if any.

Update: I have requested a Peer review on the article. --Mal 12:37, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

- Would Requests for comment not be more appropriate? The article could do with a PR, but RfC is specifically for content disputes. Stu ’Bout ye! 13:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I'm not very familiar with this area of Wikipedia tbh. I read the WP:DR page and it seemed to point to the peer review as one of the steps towards dispute resolution. I wonder if I should also list it in RfC, or would that be overkill? I'll leave it as peer review for the time being, and see what attention it attracts. --Mal 13:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not that experienced with it either. Wait and see what the initial comments in PR are, then take it from there I guess? Stu ’Bout ye! 13:40, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
