Their breakthrough single in the United States was the Billboard Hot 100 #1 "So Sick" by Ne-Yo, which they produced and co-wrote with Ne-Yo. The follow-up was "Sexy Love", also a US Top 10 single. Stargate worked with Ne-Yo co-writing and producing Rihanna´s hit "Unfaithful", which reached #6 on the Hot 100, #1 in Europe, and top 5 in 22 countries. They also produced and co-wrote the US #1 single "Irreplaceable" for Beyoncé, topping the Hot 100 for ten consecutive weeks, becoming the biggest song of 2007 on the Hot 100 Billboard Year End Chart 2007.

In May 2008 the Rihanna-single "Take A Bow" became the production-team's third US #1 and fifth UK #1.

Stargate started their successful career as producers in Trondheim, Norway in 1997. The production team were particularly successful on the British market with many Top 10 hits in the UK for artists such as Blue, Misteeq and Atomic Kitten.

The team originally consisted of Hermansen, Eriksen and Hallgeir Rustan. In 2005, Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen relocated to New York, and quickly established themselves as associates of the hottest Hip Hop/R&B acts on the US market. The third original member, Hallgeir Rustan, remains a producer in Norway.
