[edit] Slim Shady EP Promo
In Fall 1997, Eminem released a four-track promo-cassette in order to raise awareness for his then-upcoming album, Slim Shady EP. There's a video of Eminem at the Rap Olympics holding a copy of this tape up to the camera and freestyling about his, Slim Shady EP. It was actually one of these promo-tapes that Dr. Dre heard in early 1998 that made him want to sign Eminem. At the Rap Olympics in 1997, Eminem was approached by some interns at Interscope Records who saw him battling and were impressed. They asked the rapper for a demo, so he handed them a copy of the promo-cassette. This tape went from the interns, to Jimmy Iovine, to Dr. Dre.
