On 28 February 2006, it was announced that the former Crystal Palace and Aston Villa midfielder/striker Andy Gray would be joining the Sierra Leone coaching setup. It was reported that he would try to convince several English-based players to play for Sierra Leone due to their ancestry, such as Liam Rosenior, Nigel Reo-Coker, Carlton Cole and Steve Kabba.
