[edit] Moving images on Millennium Stadium
Hi! I wanted to let you know that I've just reverted your edit to Millennium Stadium, and give you my reasons for doing so. I did this for a few reasons, but mainly because your edit had moved images about football into the rugby section of the article, making them less illustrative.
Images at the bottom of sections can also cause 'edit-link clumping', in which edit links from consecutive sections all clump together in a group several sections further down, because the images overflowing from previous sections displace them; this makes it harder to edit a specific section later because the link isn't on the same line as the heading. This is particularly apparent at wider screen resolutions, where text takes up fewer lines. (For an example, see Emerson Fittipaldi in a window more than 700px wide.) Unfortunately, the preview doesn't indicate this; however, a quick check after saving (or use of the sandbox for a copy of the article) offers the opportunity to undo.
Finally, though your change may have improved the layout on your screen, it made no difference to any I examined the differences on. When trying to improve layout it's important to test it in a few different browsers at various screen resolutions: what may make an improvement for one user may make no difference for others, or worse, may be significantly detrimental.
I believe you made a good-faith edit, and I don't want to discourage you from trying to make other improvements to the layout of articles, but please remember that layout is a tricky beast that requires thorough testing, and that it is a secondary concern to content and it's logical arrangement. If you want to ask me anything, just reply here: I'll put this page on my watchlist. - ObfuscatePenguin 15:24, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:U2 at Cardiff Arms Park.jpg
This is a striking image, and I note (with pleasure) that you've gone to the trouble of filling in a detailed non-free rationale. It's not actually a poster but a ticket stub, so the tag isn't quite accurate, but I think that's a fairly minor concern. Rather more so is this: the copyright tag says that such images have to be used "to provide critical commentary on the ... event ... not solely for illustration". At the moment, the Cardiff Arms Park article does seem to be using this image solely for illustration, in which case the rationale would seem to fail. Loganberry (Talk) 23:51, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'll edit it out in a day or two if I have to, but is there any way round it? If you could find a couple of references to the actual event, for example, short enough to fit into the article but long enough to be more than simple "there was a U2 concert there" stuff, then it might be arguable that it was critical commentary. I'm rather loth to lose the image, since it is a striking one, but I don't think we can keep it as things stand. Loganberry (Talk) 16:10, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image rights
Thanks for your message. I'm no expert on image licensing, but it seems to me that "I believe it to be copyright-free." might or might not be considered sufficient grounds to tag it as such. I'd tend to err on the side of caution. There's the name of a photographer in the top right corner, which appears to be "J R Andrews" (although the first character is unclear). A quick Google didn't turn up a likely candidate, but if we could find the photographer, it's likely that they could inform you whether they consider it to be copyright free. Without that, I'd suggest asking at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions where there are editors with more knowledge in this field. Warofdreams talk 23:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi!
How did you make your logo Image:Logo-freightliner.jpg.
I am interested as it seems to be from an image

[edit] Image:Smallershop340by272.jpg
The image has several problems. First of all, it doesn't have a source listed, so it should be listed at WP:IFD. It also appears to have copyright problems, as you have indicated. Copyright problems are dealt with at Wikipedia:Copyright problems, which is where I would list the image (instead of at WP:IFD]]. The image was uploaded by User:Spillers Records, so it most likely was uploaded by the store. Royalbroil 15:57, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] On capital letters
Our style guide for capitals states (here):
- For proper names and trademarks that are given in mixed or non-capitalization by their owners (such as k.d. lang, adidas and others), follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules.
There is also a fuller illustration of how we normally deal with names in mixed case. In the absence of anything it might stand for as an abbreviation, the standard capitalization would be Atrium, and not ATRiuM - regardless of the University's wishes. As things stand, because Atrium (Cardiff) has no edit history, ATRiuM (Cardiff) can be moved back there without any issue, unless there is some significant reason for doing so other than adhering to their own preferred form. [edit] Barnstar
Just like to say thanks for the star! I concentrate on Welsh related articles and one of my goals is to counter the POV and belittlement of Cardiff by some editors (who I think are from Swansea!) Welshleprechaun (talk) 19:11, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Plans for the Arms Park.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Plans for the Arms Park.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 12:06, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Thank you
You've don an excellent job there and it will be of great help. Personally I think the Cardiff article could really be great but it just seems so plain and nobody seems to care about it. I'd like to change all that, of course. I might just give you a barnstar for your service to Wales! -MichiganCharms (talk) 20:46, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John Owen (Owain Alaw)
Hi Seth, just curious about the 'unreferenced' tag you have added to the John Owen (Owain Alaw) article - there are three separate sources that are referenced in the article. I know this isn't exactly comprehensive, but I think it'd be more appropriate to point out specific parts in the text you feel need a reference (the 'citation needed' tags). Any thoughts? [edit] User:Cardiff123098
The user looks almost certain to be the same as User:Wales123098, but that account now appears inactive. The edits aren't helpful, but appear as a very slow trickle and are currently being dealt with by warnings. The first image you mention appears to be an exact copy of [1]. It's so blatant that it could possibly be tagged with {{Db-imgcopyvio}}, but I've erred on the side of caution and listed both at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. Please feel free to comment there. [edit] Improving Cardiff articles
Hi Seth I am trying to get some order into the Cardiff related pages and am fairly new to this so would appreciate your views on how best to structure things. If you have a look at Cardiff Bay I've been adding details links to the main articles (or stubs) and hope this will encourage people to develop them. I notice you have a few things on your to do list I also plan to work on, so perhaps we could collaborate, as you have the experience and I work in County Hall and can provide access to loads of refs and images such as aerial views etc? - Thanks for helping to develop the Wetlands article. It was CHA's decision to create the reserve in 2000 and I will reference the fact but have temporarily put the most relevant report I can find. David Lowe really did not want that quote included and after consideration I feel it does not add to the article as the rubbish issue is for the whole Bay - not just the Wetlands. You may be interested to know we supported a student to PhD research on the Wetlands so we are getting hold of his dissertation and will publish it on the Web so that it can be referenced. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:1950 New Zealand.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:1950 New Zealand.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] My uploaded picture
Sorry! I keep doing this! I thought I would be safe with flickr as their licensing system seemed simple! Looks like I better keep away from the uploading area altogether! I'm awfully muddle headed when it comes to uploading images! It would be a dream come true if you would take a picture of Llywelyn for me! Are there by any chance, any statues of Llywelyn the Great or Daffyd there? If so, they too would come in really handy for the articles. I wish I could go with you! There is even a statue of Boudicca there! Thanks so much I really appreciate this! Regards --Cameron (t|p|c) 10:15, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Seth - I wanted to alert you that this website, which is most likely not a reliable source. The second proposed hook is OK, but you may want to address the concern over the website (which is a major source for the article) and give your comment on the nomination page.
