The Sarasota Reds are a minor league baseball team based in Sarasota, Florida. Home games are played at Ed Smith Stadium which also serves as the Cincinnati Reds spring training facility.
The team, which plays in the Florida State League, is the High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds major-league club.
[edit] Previous franchise history
Before 2005, the team was known as the Sarasota Red Sox and affiliated with the Boston Red Sox. Before that (1997 to at least 1987) they were affiliated with the Chicago White Sox, and were thus known as the Sarasota White Sox. For several years they played in Sarasota's Payne Park up until the construction of Ed Smith stadium.
